Any takers?  It is cheap even still for this late of a date (race day 8/28).  Price goes up after 8/14.  Not much competition there yet, believe they only have about 30 participants so far.

Any idea if packet pickup or transition setup is mandatory on Friday?  I wouldn't be able to get there until later Friday night and would need to setup Saturday morning before the race.  Wasn't sure if that might be an option give how small it sounds like this race is.

According to the Race Flyer packet pickup is available on Saturday from 6:15-7:00am.  So I can't imagine they make you come the day before.  It being a small race, I don't think they would require you to rack your bike a day early either.  I don't know anyone that has done there races before though.  I'll just go ahead and make the assumptions and hope it works out.

Okay, just spoke with the race director.  The above statement holds true, yet she said there are about 100 participants now, just to warn ya.

This might be worth the drive and it's cheaper than just about every other race.

eta: okay, now that I actually looked up where it's located it's definitely only a maybe. I thought it was closer.

So suggestions on arrival time?  First Tri for me, so do not want to under or over estimate setup time.  No reason to get up too early.

Some points about the course:
Swim is a lake swim, and up to transition area.
Bike has two notable hills; first at mile 6.5, and it is the challenging hill of the ride. There is another hill at mile nine.
Run will be out and back with an elevation increase around the 1/2 mile mark which will be down hill on the way back!

Thought this info might be helpful.

So...
What did you think?
Feedback on packets pick up, course, schwag, or any other related topic, please.
Will you be back next year- why or why not?
Would you recommend to others- why or why not?
Thanks

First one so not a lot of reference, I thought the bike was very hilly and the swim to T1 was too far apart.

Feedback on packets pick up, course, schwag, or any other related topic, please.
Pick-up was not good, they started the race about 30 mins late.  Everything else seemed good.

Will you be back next year- why or why not?
I will I thought it was fun, nice group of people, and a decently planned.  They will get better.

Would you recommend to others- why or why not?
Not sure

My friend and I had a great time!  It was his first, my third.  Sign-in was a bit disorganized and didn't seem well planned/prepared.  More information about the wave start/swim course would have been nice prior to or even during sign-in.  I think waiting until everyone was gathered on the shore led to some anxiety for newbies.

Once the race started though, I thought everything was VERY well done!

The swim was beautiful and awesome. I agree the bike was hilly but I enjoyed that.  The run was more uphill than I was expecting.  It was also very short of 5K. So a longer run course next year would be better...and flatter

Schwag was good considering the size of the event.

Good chance I'll be back next year and I'm trying to talk my wife into it as well so yes, I would recommend to others.

Ditto about packet pickup.

Ditto about wave starts.

Swim to T1 was very long.

Bike much hillier than advertised.

The bike and run overlap was very rough when making the corner out and in to the main entrance.  I almost ran someone over, then on the way out running, it was a little confusing because they changed that corner again.

Run too short.

With that said, I placed 1st in AG, but would like to make the overall podium some day.  I might try this one again, but needs to be more organized.

Thanks! I'm assuming you work with the race directors. This event has great potential! Reminded me of a sprint version of Tugaloo!

I really did enjoy it, the people were great and the location was nice.  I wish there was a way to get less hills in the bike and a shorter swim to T1 transition.  my guess is that is not possible, either way I will come back next year.
