Subject: Grand Columbian Triathlon
Is anyone doing the Grand Columbian Triathlon on Sept. 18th? They have a half IM, olympic, and aquabike. I'm trying to decide between the half and the aquabike. I'm a month back into running after tendon issues so thought the aquabike would be a good choice but my running is coming back quicker than I expected so now I'm leaning to the half. It's a tough bike course so there will be no PR so a slow run wouldn't bother me. Anyway its a very unique setting (for those west of the mountains) and a fun event.

I'm planning on doing it. I'm also having running issues, but I'm hoping to do the Olympic. I wanted to do he half but I was talked out of it as its only 3 weeks before Kona.

It was my first half ironman last year....yes, the bike course was HARD.  I am not so good at lots of rollers...there wasn't much downhill or flat, which is where I am best.  The first hill is brutal but do-able.  I heard they were going to change the run course, which would be good, as 2 loops with lots of hills was very tough!  It is a gorgeous place to race.  I'm doing the Plutonium Man in the tri cities the same day.  Still half iron, hopefully faster, as I've put in a ton of bike time this year!  You can read my race report if you want more about my race last year.  http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=180787

I'm going to do it! It will be my first Olympic distance. I have family in the area and used to camp at Spring Canyon every year when I was little. It should by nostalgic at any rate...

This year 2011, it will be on Saturday September 17th. With the addition of the IM+ race, there will probably be a lot more people and activity around the event.

Pretty tough bike course for a first Olympic. Practice, practice, practice the hills or you will suffer greatly. Other than that a truly great event.
