Subject: Safe place to run in downtown Memphis?

Hi! I'll be staying at the Marriot in downtown Aug 26-29 for business and have an 8 mile run scheduled. I hate treadmills and was wondering if there were any safe running paths for a single female near that area? I won't have access to a car if that helps. Thanks in advance!

It's pretty safe downtown. Just stick to the streets and stay away from the alleys. Along Riverside drive there are two parks and great views of the Mississippi and Tom Lee Park on the south end. You can also run to Mud Island/Harbor Town section just to the north and it's very nice.

I agree that downtown is quite safe but if u have an 8 miler, i might try to run over to mudisland for a few miles and then head back.

oh and the weather has been very hot here therefore I highly recommend early am runs if possible.

The Mud Island/ Harbortown Greenway Park is great. Not a lot of shade, so early in the morning is definitely better. Generally plenty of people around and I would think you would feel comfortable.
