Subject: Monumental Marathon?
Fresh off the success of our first HIM, some friends and I have decided to train for the Monumental Marathon on Nov 6.  However, while we're dedicated, I'd say we're 90% dedicated.  I know, gotta commit but I think we're all wondering about keeping up the motivation after 10 hours a week all summer.  So we'd like to keep our options open.

My question is whether anyone knows when we need to register by.  Does this race generally close out and if so, when?  Or do you think it will remain open?  Thanks.

Not sure but I am in the same boat.  I want to do the 1/2, but I want to wait until after IMWI to see how I feel and whether I can get back in shape.

I guess I will take the chance that it's still open in late September.

BTW, it's a great race.

I think you guys will be alright. I don't recall it selling out last year, BUT I will say it is gaining popularity. I am hearing more people coming out saying they want to run this race. I registered last year, in last September early October.

It is a great race too. The Mini is fun with all its hoopla and stuff, but the Monumental is a runners race. Flat, fast...nice route. Not a ton of crowd support but I enjoyed it...this is even after having a horrible, horrible race last year.

I'm signed up for the half, my wife is running the full. She ran it last year and it seemed to not be a full field, but it is getting more popular.

Flat and fast are always words I like to see for races, and it will be in November so the weather shouldn't be a huge issue (unless we get a really early snow).

Training for this is reminding me why I'm a triathlete, my knees, shins and calves were screaming for mercy yesterday during a short recovery run.

Broke my toe at Muncie Endurathon in July (my 1st HIM) & trying to train for Monumental Marathon.  Just worked back up to 13.1mi run today & not sure if I can get back up to 20mi long run in 6 weeks.  I did Indianapolis Marathon (at Ft. Ben) last Oct as my 1st & want to run Monumental for a better time.  I suppose I could sign up for the full, then drop down to half if I had to.

Exactly! My birthday is the 4th and I don't want to risk having too crazy of a night and then regretting it but we have a huge party planned for Saturday night so I can celebrate my birthday and the race.  I'm just hoping I somehow get a sub 2:00 for the half as my birthday present

Awww, my daughter's birthday is the 4th!!  She'll be ten.  Yeah, I'm going to have to plan her party sometime before or after the marathon.  I don't think I can fit a marathon and a her party on the same day.  I may be carried away in a body bag stretcher after the run anyway.   Wink

Sorry I have to ask, how did you break your toe at Muncie?

Freak accident.  Exiting the swim I stuck my foot into an rocky underwater hole jamming left 3rd toe.  Didn't discover the break until after finishing.  Excitement/adrenalin are amazing sometimes.  Had a decent bike leg (for me), and survived the run OK with just some leg cramps last 2-3mi.  Left foot felt odd during the run (compensatory overpronating), but no real pain until about 7-10min after the finish.  Then yeooowza!!!!  Felt like that foot had been hit with a sledge

Slated for 14-15mi long run tomorrow so we'll see how it holds up.

When does this usually sell out? I would need to recover quickly from Hawaii and really wouldn't want to commit to jumping in until the week before or so. Wife wants to go to Boston in April so I figure I better qualify and this should be an ez course.
