Subject: Ironman Training Plan
I'm looking for a good Ironman training plan for IM Arizona next year. being that it's going to be early in the season, i'll be training full force in the regular off season. I've found some ok plans on the internet, but wanted opinions from the BT'ers on training plans for a first time Ironman. My race history is short.. two (thats right) tri's, both sprints. There are two more sprints I want to do in August and September. There isn't a Half Iron I can compete in since I have other plans already for those dates. So.. let the brainstorming begin!!

i went with the one on this site. like you, i'm going solo.
but no matter what plan - i've found that i can only use them as a rough guidance if i want to be able to squeeze job, training, sleeping and a pathetic semblance of a social life into a regular 24h day.

all i'm trying is to get the approximate number of h/week in.

I'm planning on using Don Fink's  Be Iron Fit.  30 week program.  Won't hold fast to it, but use it as a guide line-time line.   Also will be picking the brains of local Iron competitors and finishers.

I used the Be Iron Fit book for Ironman CDA this year. I added some longer bike rides and did a mix of the intermediate/advanced programs he had. Didn't do either of the races that were part of the training plan either, just long rides on those days. Also went to a coach for one session and got fitted to my bike and my max HR established so I knew where my zones were. I got help with nutrition questions, etc. from local tri shop and other people who were training too. Good luck to you.

cool, thanks for the info all. I think i'm going to check out that book Be Iron Fit. I downloaded the IM training plan from this site too. I'm going to finish out this season training the way I currently am, then at the end of november i'm going to dive into the plan that i choose. this way I'll have a good base and allow myself a few weeks to recover mentally before the big training begins.
