Pre-race routine:

Water heater was T/U so took a 64 degree shower the night before! Alarm went off at 0430, like I needed it. Bowl of oatmeal and a banana, then the :20 min drive to the park. Had to wait for the gates to open at 0530. Once the cars started moving through the gate, the guy in front of me stopped to talk to the park ranger. Somehow, he was lost! He asked for directions to I-25...about 25 miles away!!! How did he get stuck in that line???
Event warmup:

Stretched while hanging out with friends and family.
Swim
  • 14m 26s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

As I came out of the water, I stepped on a rock really hard with my right foot. They had warned us about some rocks at the exit. Right between my Fourth and Fifth metatarsal still sore morning after.
Saw my son holding the sign, ran by and gave him a high five!

Comments:

A litle windy today @ 8-10 MPH. Mostly crosswind on about 8 miles of the course. Smack in our face the last 2 miles!

Saw my son holding the sign, rode by and gave him a high five! My wife said alot of people thought that was pretty cool. :-)
Transition 2
  • 00m 53s
Run
  • 36m 17s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 11m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

This was tough...had some pain on the outside of my hips I've never felt before. I'm thinking I used some stabilizer muscles I hadn't used on the bike due to some wind. Still had enough to really kick the last couple hundred yards as you can see in the pic...that's not my regular stride. ;-)
Post race
Warm down:

Once I crossed the line, someone handed me a bottle of water and a Coors Light! Some stretching among the hugs and congrats from frinds and family.
Went home and fixed the water heater so I could take a hot shower!

Event comments:

This was my first...I think I will run this every year now. May even do the OLY distance in a year or two!

HR was really going by now. Had to walk a few times to keep it below 160. Since I had that heart attack 6 years ago, the doc wants me to stay away from 160 BPM for too long.
Course: Paved walking trail around the reservoir.

Awesome!

My husband did the sprint also and he said the winds on the bike were killing him.

Congrats on a great race.
