Swim
Comments: first 200 yds was like i for got how to swim...i wasnt breathing correctly (trying every 3 and failing), was trying to go really fast, was getting slightly disoriented with all the feet... after i rounded the bouy i calmed down and get into a groove. i went back to breathing every 2 (on my left side), and could follow the shore line on every breath, so i wasnt getting off course. i also was right behind a girl that was doing breat stroke, i could see her feet in the water and followed them to keep on track since i knew she could see. What would you do differently?: stay calm. i can swim in the pool breathing every three. but for now, in the race envioronment where i am trying to go fast and getting out of breath more quickly, i need to breath every 2. Transition 1
Comments: not sure of transition time, they included T1 with the bike time, and t2 with the run time. i think that it was somehweres around 2-3 min. i didnt where a suit, so i didnt have to take anything off, only worrying about putting on helmet and bike shirt & shoes. felt good. What would you do differently?: at this point nothing really...i think that i need to do more to get experienced. Bike
Comments: felt good. only a few people passed me on the bike. the two big hills really wore on my legs, i was going so slow up them giving all my might! What would you do differently?: more hill work is needed in training...i am going to rock that thing next year! Transition 2
Comments: again, T2 is with run time. wasting time on undoing shoes when i soon learned that you can rip them off just as easy. also, bike gloves were a bit of a pain to get off (they dont velcro, but are stretchy at the cuff). What would you do differently?: change form bike socks to running socks...i could feel that my feet were wet and sweaty and i was starting to rub and get a blister during the run. i would like to spend the extra time putting a new pair on for sure. Run
Comments: i suck. i wasnt eveing running, but lightly jogging. my knee, hip, and groin all hurt on the right side...not to mention the blister that was slowly forming with every step. What would you do differently?: need to add more running into the training for longer periods of time to get up that endurance. Post race
Warm down: lots of water drinking and dumping on the head. stretched claved and quads alot. laid down and stretched the back. ate a brown sugar cinnamon victory pop tart with dad...then a gatorade, pretzels, and a slim jim. What limited your ability to perform faster: my sucking at running. and feaking out on the first leg of the swim. Event comments: i am officially a triathlete now!!!! i am psyched! i had such an amazing high afterwards when i finished...amesome! all i wanted to do was finish, not be a top finisher...and i did...and i am so happy and proud of myself. i look forward to the next one and beating my time!!!
