Just curious... anyone know anything water quality for the swim?  How about current?

It's pretty brackish, in general not too much current.
I am iffy for this one, have a calf injury and am waiting for ortho next week.

Hey guys,
I am brand new to this Tri thing. I just decided to give it a shot. I have always wanted to do it, I just have never talked myself into it. What can you tell me?

I did this Tri for my first last year and have done 3 since!  It is a GREAT First triathlon:  FLAT   The swim is tough, water quality is horrible.  I'm looking forward to this one in a couple of weeks, just hope this cold will go away so I don't lose a lot of training  :/

Last year I did this as my first triathlon and I'm signed up to do it again. I thought the swim was great... there is no current, but it is pretty brackish. The only thing I don't like is that it is a long way to the transition from the swim (maybe 300 meters?) so your transition one time will be a longer than usual. Other than that it's a fast and flat course!

I absolutely LOVED this tri. This was my first full-size Sprint last year. I then signed up for 7 of them this summer (...AAAAGHHH!!!)

You will love the course. Swim is murky, brakkish, brown so learn to sight as you are swimming. I remember last year having about a 1/4 mile run from the river to the transition area through grass. The end of the bike to the transition area goes through a rough and patchy concrete parking area.

Good luck!!! If anyone is from the Waynesboro/Charlottesville area and wants to do some training together, let me know!!! sacketlm [at] gmail [dot] com

I feel your pain literally, I was off from 2 months of training due to a pulled Postier Tibial tendon.
Lot of rehab and PT concentrating on the Gastrocs.
Get better soon and fully recovered.

Thanks....it has not been a good season for me.  I will say on the plus side of the season I set PR's at a half mary in February and the 10K in March.  It went to h3ll in a handbasket after that!  Rumpass in Bumpass was a disaster from the start.  The Century ride nearly left me on the side of the riad crying cause 50 miles of headwind kicked my keester.  I was sick through May and June .... missed Tavern backed out of Patriot HIM cause I was so sick, it was hotter than h3ll in July for Rockett's so that was a day of finish to survive .....now this.  Doubt I will get anything else in until the spring.  PT, swimming.....rehab.....

On the plus side I do get to start Jorge's winter plan earlier than everyone else cause I am only allowed the trainer so I can do it while ya'lll are still racing!  I'll be done with last winter's set when he posts this winters stuff!!

6 days out and counting.
My swim times have improved, (Who knew that bilaateral breathing would make me faster?) and both laegs seem to be in good shape. I ahve been working the PT and sttretyching on my right one and think I am as ready as I am gonna be.
Just going to be doing "Maintainance" drills this week.
Good Luck to all and hope to see you all there, and hey save me some fo the post race food, I'll be the overweight guy with thinning hair near the BOP.
Queen we will miss you!

Thanks.....I am really bummed about missing out on these races.

Not going to go down for the day since the standing around isn't going to help the gastrocs heal up.

Hope everyone has a great day and I am looking forward to your RR's!!

WAY TO GOOOO!!!!

I ended up wrecking my bike at around mile 10. I was cruising along at about 22mph with the biggest calf cramp ever!!! I looked down at my shoes and my calf and ended up veering my front tire off the road and couldn't get it back on with the wet conditions. It hurt.

I missed my goal time of 1:15 with a finish time of 1:18. Oh well...

Was it a woman?  She is at a lot of races, is usually a late finisher but I have seen her finish faster than many younger people.  Wicked fast swimmer and biker!!

And just about the cutest little thing you would want to see!
5' nuthin about 98 lbs and swam like an eel.
She was in the wave behind me and on the bike about 30 seconds behind me.
She finished dead last and my wife said she got more applause thatn the first place finisher.
(of course all the runner ans spectators were there) Her time was 2:43:xx
Met her at packet pick-up she had a cute little dog with her.
Was talking to a guy byt the name of Ted that I  met there and was in my age group.
She went up to get her award and i tiold him that is the way to do it...Out live your competition.

I ended up registering last minute.  Knew I'd be slow (and I was) but participating it sure beats sleeping in on a Sunday.

I was essentially my first ever wet weather event.  Though I was very cautious on the bike (witnessed someone hit the pavement coming around one of the turns) I really enjoyed the cooler weather.

Swimming in the James wasn't nearly as creepy as I thought it would be.

Glad I went.  It was probably my last event for the season.  Time to focus on improving my bike skills.  Lot's of opportunities to see improvements for next year.
