Who's in?

We'll be there and lodging at the Westin for Sat. I'm hoping to get up early enough to get a light swim/bike/run or some combination to learn my way around.

We'll definitely need to cross paths and meet up while there!

You're the one that knows the area. Either way, sounds like a fun table.

I can guarantee we're bringing a heard (we have 3 rooms) so we probably can't just barge in.

Hey-I'm thinking of coming up from Fairhope for the race.  Is this the first year for olympic distance?  Any thoughts on the swim/bike/run courses?

I did the race last year before it was Oly, but the courses haven't changed too much just extended a bit.    Swim is a TT start from a dock.  Swim upriver for a bit, then do a U-turn, follow the river diagonally to the transition area which is about 1/4 mile from the swim start I would guess.

The bike is mostly flat with some rollers with a good number of turns.

Run course is mostly flat with some rollers.  The 1st mile to 1 1/2 mile is on some nice gravel trail in very heavy shade.  After you get out of the woods,  the remainder of the run is pretty much open to sun.
Hope that helps!

Anyone have any more plans?

Looks like we'll head up Sat around mid morning. We'll go to packet pickup, drive around the site (I want to drive the course), check out the water, and see the sights. Go to the expo, check in, and then go to dinner.

We up for dinner somewhere? Seeing as how the family wants to come up, we'll do a family type lunch on Sat or Sun, and the wife and I will be free for a BT dinner Sat night if anyone has any suggestions.

Looking forward to it.

Ahh, is anyone willing to share and post their goals or do they think they'll jinx themselves?

I told Mike(Rogillio) that we might have a BT dinner.  He was interested in meeting everyone.

My best guess is 2:25
swim - :26   1:37/100 y
T1 - :03
bike - 1:08  22.21 mph
T2 - :02
Run - :45   7:15/mi

I'm ignorant about the course details, so I could be off 3-4 minutes each way.

Guess I should play along

Swim: 24mins (1:35/100)
T1: 2:00
Bike: 1:24 (18mph) **18.8mph in last sprint of 15mi**can probably maintain faster**
T2: 2:00
Run: 1hr (10min/mi)

Total: 2:52

The goal is to not overshoot the bike, and save it for the run. If I ride smart, I should be able to run well.

I'm so trying to draft off you during the swim!

I'll play, but will be last:

Swim: 28mins (1:50/100)
T1: 2:00
Bike: 1:24 (18mph) I think I can maintain 18mph, if it's a pretty flat course.  Averaged 19.3 on an 18mi course at Grandman, but the run was a catastrophe.  My goal is to stay in high Z2 HR for the bike.
T2: 2:00
Run: 1:08hr (11min/mi)

Total: 3:04

I was hopeing for at least a 3:15 finish.  If I get in a decent swim and don't kill myself on the bike, maybe I can break 3 hours??  Never really looked at it this close before now.  Of course, the 11min/mi for the 10k is pretty optimistic for me.

BTW, keep me posted on dinner.  It would be my wife and two boys (5,4).

Go for it. You can return the favor on the bike.

The 2000TT (in a pool) was at 1:35/100 and I definitely wasn't winded. We've got current in the TN so hopefully that'll help too!

So what time does everyone plan on showing up at the expo, the race site, and all the other happenings around there?

I may be off, but I was planning on leaving BHM around 11, heading up. That ought to get us up there around 1ish. We should have time for the 50% off athlete's lunch, time to check out the race site, drive the course, walk through transition, and check into the hotel.

Dinner plans? Bama, wanna make some suggestions since you're up there at all? Think you'll be able to go at all?

We were planning on leaving early Saturday.  Will probably head by the rocket center first to let the boys run around and check out the cool stuff.  After that, we are headed to the hotel and packet pickup.

Don't forget your Toy's for the tots...

Just looking around at the Bridge Street area, anyone know anything about DOLCE?

365 The Bridge Street
Suite 125
Huntsville, AL 35806
Phone: (256) 327-8385

www.dolcegroup.com

Docle Enoteca e Ristorante is a modern Italian restaurant and lounge that embraces the flavor of old world Italy while catering to a hop and sophisticated clientele. Taking a cure from the popularity of Italy’s food and wine enotecos, Dolce serves Italian tapas as well as traditional Italian dishes with a contemporary spin. Imagine the night stars glimmering through a canopy of trees as a young woman in hip hugger jeans sips a Dolce Flinini on the patio. Inside, the ambient lounge music and the sommelier presents an aged Chianti Classico to a couple sharing an intimate dinner. Dolce brings Italian dining to an entirely new level, encompassing classic and contemporary Italian cuisine, fine wines and warm ambiance.

Looks like an Italian joint, if that interests anyone. Saturday night?

No.  The only places I've eaten at in Bridge Street are PF Changs and Red Robin.

Good news is we have a cold front moving in.  Predicted High of only 83.  No red font intended.

Keep me posted.  I think you have my cell #.  You can text me on the updates, since we will be leaving in about an hour.   What time where you thinking of eating tonight?   We have our boys with us, so i'm thinking we will be in bed around 8pm.

If we can make it, italian tapas sounds pretty good.  We will typically eat anything, but definitely don't want anything too heavy.

What time do you guys want to eat?  Italian sounds good to me.  We have everything under sun within a 2-3 mile radius of the Bridge Street/Research Park area.

Dolce is pretty pricey, but the food is very good.  You need a reservation, but its easy to get.  And they have black toilet paper.
