Champion 7136 Knoxville area | Subject: Thankfully... the story has finally come together (Star Wars Nerd Alert) After years of not understanding what the hell was going on in Return of the Jedi... ...Finally, the missing piece. IT ALL MAKES SENSE TO ME NOW! Missing Lightsaber scene Thank you George Lucas... after 30 re-releases, it has finally come full circle. |

I think I would have preferred Kurtz's ending over the Ewok party at the end. |

Spill it. What did you used to think, and what do you think now (iow, what's the big deal?) basically... in Episode 5 Luke loses his hand and his (blue) lightsaber. During episode 6 he mysteriously has another (green) lightsaber. At this point in Star Wars canon, Jedi'ism is pretty much forgotten/eradicated (seen at the end of episode 3 -order 66- and in some of the books that follow) so a lightsaber (which, according to most Star Wars sources, are built by their owners, being instructed by their masters... Luke's was an exception in Episode 4, he "inherited" Anakin's old one.) isn't just something you'd be able to get your hand's on. That little bit of video shows that he found plans (in Obi Wan's home) on how to construct a new one... giving some answer to how it "appeared." It's not a big deal, but George Lucas needs a new *tidbit* to add so all of us Star Wars nerds will run out and buy the new super duper delux master blaster edition in HD. |

When Luke leaves for cloud city he tells Yoda he will come back and finish his training. At the end of 5 he splits and goes a separate way from Han and Leia and tells them he will meet them later. Add to that that he is a much more accomplished Jedi in the beginning of 6 than he was in the end of 5. It makes sense that he went back to complete his training with Yoda as he had promised. |

It was neat to see this scene, but they decided to leave it out because they wanted Luke's first appearance to be a surprise. When he first enters Jaba's palace the audience is not even sure who that is because of his appearance. He almost looks like the Emperor at first. We knew Luke lost his previous saber and had he had a new one on his person previous to this we would have seen it. The surprise of the new lightsaber being hidden in R2 would have been lost if this scene was included. </GEEK MODE> |
