Anyone else out in BT land sign up for the Rev 3 Quassy Half? If you have raced the course before let me know what it's like. I hear the bike course is tough.

Have not signed up yet but will be doing it again in 2011.  Did my first half on this course and really had a good time.  Course is as challenging as advertised.  Train hills and more hills and you should be fine.  There are a bunch of race reports from last year you can check out as well.

Hey everyone - planning on doing this as my second HIM (Timberman last year), can't wait as I've heard so many good things about REV3 events and Quassy in particular.  I love the idea of a major race--lots of big names participating--that doesn't have 2K+ competitors (I think there were 700 or so last year?)

Anyway, looking forward to talking training/racing with everyone here!  Hope you're all having a great winter and not getting too discouraged by the cold.

i just signed up, it will be my first HIM, but I have done several races at the Quassy venue and riden the Rev3 bike course.  it is very hilly.  Not the Alps - we dont have any hills higher than about 1000 feet above sea level in CT, but it is constantly up and down with some severe climbs and some gradual ones.  The run is very hilly too.  I am looking forward to it but must admit I am definitely intimidated.

Everyone I know who has done Rev3 in the past has said the race and support was outstanding.  Every race I've been to at Quassy as been great.  the park is a very kid friendly/small amusement park, perfect for little kids.  Middlebury is sort of in teh middle of nowhere so you have about a 30 minute ride to Hartford or New Haven.  Waterbury is closer.

Hello everyone

I am doing this race as my 2nd Half Iron Distance.  Looking forward to it.

I hear the swim is in a shallow lake - so that is good, it means the water will be warmer than other places in New England - with this rain, lakes have not warmed up. Be thankful you are not doing Mooseman, I heard that the temp there was FFFFRREEZZING - like here, where the water is not yet 50! But it will be much warmer at Quassy, so that is good.

The bike course is hilly.  From what I hear it is rolling. Lots of short shots, a few long shots, but lots of descending too.

The run is HILLY. Again, this is talking to folks who have done it, they say the run is kind of killer.

I plan on getting there sometime Friday and getting a swim in.  I haven't done an OWS yet this year (see above H20 temp) so I would like to get some time in.  Will also scout out the course, hope to see some of you there.

Mandy

just swam the course - water is purrrrrrfect! i would say 62-65.  lifeguard said 68, no way it was that warm.  i was in a full wetsuit and plan on wearing my sleeveless sunday.  the water is cool enough so there is no vegetation.  first OWS of the season, i could have swam all day.  water was choppy today, hope its choppy sunday. i love chop.

I have to remember not to enjoy the swim too much on sunday.  wish the race was 2 or 3 mile swim, 40 mile bike, 13 mile run, that would be a better format.
