After reading several threads about riding in the yard clipping in & out before going out on the road for the first time, I took that advice yesterday evening.  After about 10 minutes & no problems I decided to give it a go on the road.  I was heading toward the driveway to go onto the road & stopped just short, still on the grass.  I unclipped my left foot.....& fell right, in front of my wife & son LOL.

Other than that it was an awesome ride.  Going from a mountain bike to this bike (2010 Kestrel Talon Tri) is unbelievable!  It was the first time on anything besides a mountain bike & first time on clipless pedals (Speedplay Zero's).   I did 15 miles & it was awesome.  I can't wait to put many more miles on her!

Welcome to the club!!  I think I fall at LEAST once a season.  Last time was two weeks ago - sounds like a similar situation as yours.  Landed on the grass with my pride hurting more than anything else.  Maybe this will be your first and last!!

Wishful thinking right there.

the real question is: Did you protect the bike? scars heal, but scratches on a new bike last forever!

Initially, try to clip out earlier than you think when coming to an intersection. Speedplay Zeros can be a little hard to clip out of due to the spring tension, but you'll quickly get used to them.

I've actually never gone down as a result of being clipped in, but I've come close on numerous occasions, including once where a stop sign saved me from going onto the curb.

Now I need to find some wood to go knock on!

Fabulous ride! And yeah, I've fallen 3x on my new bike and I've only had it since July.

Here is what made me fall my first time...unclipped with my right, went to put it down and there was a grasshopper the size of a flashlight right where I was going to put my foot...so went to put my left foot down while still clipped.  Doh.  Went back later with the camera-these things were everywhere....and mating.....weird bug porn swamp scene.
