Total Time = 1h 38m 37s
Overall Rank = 84/194
Age Group = XL3
Age Group Rank = 1/5
Pre-race routine:

Bagel and banana for breakfast 2 hours before race.
Plenty of water in the morning.
Balance Bar 45 minutes before race.

Event warmup:

Walked around once set up in transition. Short sprint swim to get the blood flowing.
Swim
  • 22m 10s
  • 1091 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim felt much longer than 1000M, and probably was based on my time. A lot of people had trouble navigating, and kept trying to run me over, but about 1/3 of the way through I broke free and had plenty of open water around me. It was hard to spot some of the buoys.
What would you do differently?:

I felt I could have pushed a little harder on the swim, but not sure it's worth it.
Transition 1
  • 02m 36s
Comments:

Felt slow in T1, even though I just put on shoes and socks and a shirt and have toeclips instead of clipless pedals. Felt able to crank up to speed quickly on the bike. Briefly turned in the wrong corral but didn't lose more than 2 seconds and found my bike.
What would you do differently?:

Find a way to get shoes/socks on faster and just keep moving fast in transition.
Bike
  • 42m 7s
  • 13 miles
  • 18.52 mile/hr
Comments:

Was tough on the way out into the wind and uphill. Starting feeling the need to use the bathroom about halfway on the bike. Was worried most of the way that I was pushing too hard, but just kept pushing and pulled off my best pace yet on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder up the hills. Try to time hydration when going downhill/recovering instead of when going slower.
Transition 2
  • 00m 44s
Comments:

Racked my bike a little hard and broke the rack, but someone fixed it.
Had to push my way past some people hanging around in the way in my row.
What would you do differently?:

Stop worrying about forgetting to do something and just take off running.
Run
  • 30m 58s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

Fastest pace ever! I felt I was pushing hard, but actually was worried I was going fast enough. Started to feel hot near the end but was fine otherwise. Definitely used almost every ounce in the tank. Stopped for a quick pee right at the beginning of the run, so lost may 10-15 seconds.
What would you do differently?:

Turnover a little faster, only stop for water if I really need it.
Post race
Warm down:

Snacks and plenty of hydrating. Walked around and cheered on friends and waited to pick up my award.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Still a little unsure about where my "limit" is so that when I finish, I've used up every ounce of energy I have.

Event comments:

Great race!
