Total Time = 1h 25m 17s
Overall Rank = 234/511
Age Group = M3034
Age Group Rank = 18/25
Pre-race routine:

Set up early, no new things, scout the site and competition
Event warmup:

Walk to start line.
Swim
  • 15m 49s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 48s / 100 yards
Comments:

Much better than expected. Found a fast buddy and sailed around.
What would you do differently?:

Worn shaded goggles, been a bit more agressive, crank through the last tenth.
Transition 1
  • 02m 2s
Comments:

Did not go out barefooted, turned out to be a smart plan.
What would you do differently?:

Work much harder to develop leg strength going through the transition.
Bike
  • 40m 6s
  • 12 miles
  • 17.96 mile/hr
Comments:

Worried too much about the drafting issue, particularly given the marshall tailing us so often... pace wasn't bad, but could have been a lot better based on the training rides. Also, my speedo was OOC for the ride, which made it tough to guage how fast we were going.
What would you do differently?:

Worry less about the draft and more about my own pace.
Transition 2
  • 01m 43s
Comments:

Went well apart from the hill we had to slide down. Should have stayed in shoes and unclipped.
What would you do differently?:

Stay in the shoes on down hill dismounts, use socks.
Run
  • 25m 38s
  • 3.4 miles
  • 07m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

Didn't realize I was that quick. Felt slower, but consistent. Bottom line, this saved my bacon. I need to work more on getting successfully between bike and run without gassing my thighs.
What would you do differently?:

Practice for longer periods of time.
Post race
Warm down:

Cream-sicle and a bottle of water. Standing on de beach with friends.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of proper nutrition, not nearly as much training as I could have brought to the table.

Event comments:

Excellent preparation, everything went extremely smoothly from check-in to finish line. My only gripe is on the bike section from dismount going in to T2. The downhill run is simply not very friendly, but in the end we all ran the same course. Can't wait for this one next year.
