Pre-race routine:

got up had some cereal drove to ellacoya.
talked to my wife while delaying warming up. had some gu chomps about 30 minutes before the start.
Event warmup:

did some light jogging. not a good warm up at all. had some leg tightness and felt like I couldn't run at all. also had to quickly use a port a potty.
put wet suit on and did some swim warm up. felt really good in the water.
Swim
  • 09m 21s
  • 581 yards
  • 01m 37s / 100 yards
Comments:

started off shaky, got better as the swim progressed. I started off in the middle of the wave. should have started more to the left. Once I got into a rythym though I felt good. Passed a few people, only got passed by one guy who used the shallowness to do a dolphin dive and take off. lots of people walked. didn't get passed by anyone in the following wave.
What would you do differently?:

not sure. had a little problem rounding the last buoy lost abit of time there.
Transition 1
  • 02m 45s
Comments:

this is usually my worst transition. felt a lot slower than the time. results don't show actual transition times so this is a guess based on taking total time and individual events and figuring the difference. also on the bike out I hit the lap button.
What would you do differently?:

need to practice swim to bike transitions. have a very hard time running from the water to the bike. need to take a couple of breaths and slow my heart rate down prior to geting my bike stuff on
Bike
  • 55m 21s
  • 15 miles
  • 16.26 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt a little better on the bike. probably should have drank a bit more. nice day though, not too hot. so i think i did ok. Overall. A pretty good bike.

Did really good descending. Got into higher gear and really pedaled.
What would you do differently?:

practice hill climbs for next season. need to get better at climbing. I'm getting tired of being passed uphill
Transition 2
  • 02m 7s
Comments:

it felt like one of my better bike to run transitions although the time doesn't seem to show it. it was a LONG way to the run out maybe that's where the longer time came from.

maybe for the shorter races I need to get used to not wearing socks for the run as well as the bike. might help my transition time.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 23m 51s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 57s  min/mile
Comments:

felt sluggish for the first mile. found my second wind and was able to speed up after the turn around. I definetly did better on the way in than the way out. Finished very strong, although I think my knee paid the price.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Had I pushed harder through the sluggishness at the beginning, might not have done as well after the turn.
Post race
Warm down:

cooled down, drank water, ate some grub. chatted with family.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

being sick for almost the entire month of July. Had two good training weeks prior, overall though, completely out of my control.

Event comments:

good race. always have a blast at Timberman.
