Pre-race routine:

Up at 4, chugged a can of Starbuck's Double-shot. Made the first visit to the toilet and went out. There was a guy at the Hotel that had asked for a ride with me so we headed out a few minutes before 5, hit the DunkinDonuts as it was opening and picked up some coffee and bagel. Then off to the race site. I think that the race organizers scared the crap out of many of the participants because this was the shortest wait I have seen in the three years doing this race to get into the park. Parked the car and chilled with Ben for about 30 minutes drinking coffee and eating bagel.
Swim
  • 39m 15s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

there seemed to be a lot more pushing and grabbing this time than in the past. I positioned myself near the front which was kind of silly given my poor swimming abilities and that probably explains the rough housing.
What would you do differently?:

need to get to the pool
Transition 1
  • 02m 14s
Comments:

Fumbled a bit with my helmet and with finding a place to put the wetsuit. Decided to pocket the glasses because it was so overcast which turned out to be a good call.
What would you do differently?:

Throw that wetsuit on the ground like I usually do, fool!

  • 08m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

decided to wear socks this time. this is well worth the few extra seconds! I hit a wall around mile 8 and it took about 3 miles to snap out of it. Started out easy like I planned then picked up a bit from mile 2 until 8. Finished feeling better and stronger, just dont know what happened in the middle there for awile. Funny how running has become a bit of a liability for me the past two years, when it used to be my strength. Crazy injuries!
What would you do differently?:

More training.
