Subject: RE: Obama called a Muslim. Again. *sigh* Chr15 - 2010-08-25 12:13 PM I know nothing of this discussion and it doesn't really interest me either however can I as one thing, a point picked up on Renee's post above... unfit for the Presidency due to lack of genuine Christian credentials Does your constitution say that only persons with 'genuine' christian credentials may become President, is that someone's bent on the rules, or is it that someone who is not a 'genuine' christian wouldn't stand a chance of being voted in for their beliefs or non-beliefs? Our Constitution has no religious test, so it's not a legal issue. It is purely a personal issue. Some people feel that only *real* Christians are fit to be POTUS. These people have a vested political interest in defining what a *real* Christian is (or isn't ). The same sort of bias was used against President Kennedy (some Christians don't believe that Catholics are real Christians, either ). Mitt Romney and Barack Obama are hardly the first politicians to have their religious "credentials" called into question - and they won't be the last. FWIW (I know, not much ), I believe our POTUS is a Christian. I also don't care if he is a Muslim, as this would in no way diminish his intellect or thoughtfulness, attributes I consider vitally important for any POTUS. I don't believe Christians are endowed with any kind of personal advantage over another person of faith or non-faith when it comes to leadership. The only advantage it gives a Christian is that they will not automatically undermine their chances of being elected as POTUS. Edited by Renee 2010-08-25 11:29 AM
