Member 31 Just north of Seattle WA | Subject: Lake Sammamish Tri 8/28 Is anyone doing the Lake Sammamish Tri this Saturday, 8/28? My wife and I are. Looking forward to to my first non-team tri. The bike and run courses looks to be mostly flat. The swim looks like it goes counter clock-wise, is that correct? Not looking forward to getting up at 4:30 though. |

Champion 10668 Tacoma, Washington | Subject: RE: Lake Sammamish Tri 8/28 Bike course is NOT flat, though what "mostly" means to you may be the issue. I'll be doing the lead motorcycle on the bike course, so if you see me (yellow motorcycle), come say hi! Lisa (lkc01234) will be there doing the timing as well with BuDu Racing. Good luck! |

Extreme Veteran 875 Issaquah | Subject: RE: Lake Sammamish Tri 8/28 This looks like the same (or largely the same) course as the Issaquah tri in June. If the swim is set up the same it would be counter clockwise. Depends on your point of view but the bike is fairly flat. A few hills in both directions but nothing I would consider major. The run course is largely on trail surface. |

Champion 10668 Tacoma, Washington | Subject: RE: Lake Sammamish Tri 8/28 When I did these races a couple years ago, they used different beaches -- the Issaquah Tri used the one farther into the park. BuDu reversed the dorection of the swim, so you go out on the rocky side and come in the sandy side. |

Regular 212 Seattle, WA | Subject: RE: Lake Sammamish Tri 8/28 What kind of elevation change is there on the run? Trying to decide whether to go with flats or not, and my calves don't deal very well with hills and flats. |

Trying to decide whether to go with flats or not, and my calves don't deal very well with hills and flats. Maybe a total of 15 feet? It's very flat, with one rise (that I remember) as you transition from trail to pavement. This IS an off-road run, grass and dirt, mostly. Weather forecast calls for not much chance of rain (10% tonight, 0% tomorrow), but if it's wet at all, it could be a little slippery in places. That may help your flats or not decision. |

Member 31 Just north of Seattle WA | Subject: RE: Lake Sammamish Tri 8/28 Thanks DT for all the info. By the way, nice bike - is that what you'll be riding? I probably won't see you since you'll be leading the cyclists, except on the turn-around when you're heading back and I'm still heading out. |

Regular 212 Seattle, WA | Subject: RE: Lake Sammamish Tri 8/28 What are everybody's goals for this race? Its only my third tri of the season (and ever), and so far I've won my AG (M20-24) in the two I've done so far. Trying to do that for a third time, because I've only got two more races this year, and next year I move up to 25-29; 20-24 is the least competitive AG out there, until you hit 60. |

Master 2235 Pacific Northwest | Subject: RE: Lake Sammamish Tri 8/28 Some of the LUNA Chix will be working packet pickup in the morning. I am pretty sure I will be one of them, and my 7-year-old son may do body marking....so say hello! Best of luck to you racers! It's a fast course, for sure. On the bike, there is a hill in the middle, but as said before, not a super serious hill. Heading north (outbound) once you get to the top of the hill is one of my favorite downhills when I ride, it's super fast and you can get some major speed!! I won't be there for the actual race, so be sure to post your results back here when all is said and done! --Leslie |

I probably won't see you since you'll be leading the cyclists, except on the turn-around when you're heading back and I'm still heading out. Yup, that's the bike (and jacket). Leading was interesting... Got stopped TWICE by police on the RETURN part of the course, they were trying to tell me to get over onto the roadway. Once was RIGHT in front of the lead rider. The police almost physically blocked me, and then let me go after I told him I was with the race... And the leader had to dodge both of us to keep going. I'm just glad that didn't cause a crash. Funny, I thought the police were the LEAST attentive to what was going on in the race -- as I passed about half of them on the outbound leg, they were in their cars reading books (or twiddling their thumbs, or SOMEthing), didn't even look up. |

Regular 212 Seattle, WA | Subject: RE: Lake Sammamish Tri 8/28 Had a fun time at the race for sure. Finished 8th, improved my bike speed from my last sprint (I think I went a 37:30-ish), ran a sub-20 5k (something I missed by 4 seconds last time), and I think I finished top-10 on the swim. Lost at least a minute being a dope in transition though. Third time was not the charm! |

Member 31 Just north of Seattle WA | Subject: RE: Lake Sammamish Tri 8/28 Well, I completed my first tri...at age 53! I wasn't sure what to expect regarding times, but I ended up at 1:28, according to the results at the event. Not sure about my times, except my bike computer said 46.xx, which is way too slow, for me. I made quite a few mistakes - went too far outside in the swim on both turns, but finished in the front part of the pack in my wave, according to a friend. I was pretty quick out of T1 I think, but went too hard in the first part of the bike and I paid for that later. I finally got into a good cadence on my bike, but my hams were cramping a bit. That hit me in the run and I had to stop 3 times to stretch my legs cause they were cramping up. So my run was much slower because of that. About half way though I felt better and was able to up my pace after the water station. Going in, I thought the bike would be my strongest, since I've been biking for awhile, but I think it ended up my worst. Live and learn. The organizers did a great job, it was very smooth, well run and everyone helping out was very helpful and pleasant. I have three weeks until my next tri - at Kirkland. |

Regular 212 Seattle, WA | Subject: RE: Lake Sammamish Tri 8/28 Best part was seeing my dad finish. He's been building up to this for a couple years, and despite having an awful hip injury last year, he hasn't been dissuaded. He went a 1:34:4x, and is already talking about where he can cut time before the next one. |

Master 2235 Pacific Northwest | Subject: RE: Lake Sammamish Tri 8/28 Those were some fast times! Congratulations to you all! I did indeed volunteer at packet pickup--got to say hi to David and meet Lisa! Stayed to watch some of the swimmers come into T1, but my kiddo was whining at that point so I didn't get to stick around for the finish. I did notice some of the police texting (or checking Facebook?) on their phones at intersections, while bikes were cruising by. Odd. |
