I raced One Las Tri last year. It was a small race and a lot of fun! The race will be chip timed this year but from what I hear will still feature the time trial swim start.

I'm on the fence.  It'll be a game day decision.  If the weather is good, I'll prolly do it.  If not, I'll prolly volunteer.

My wife and I are signed up for it.  I raced it last year and enjoyed the race.  The time trial swim start was different from the wave starts I am used to, much less of the swim scrum at the beginning.  The bike course is relatively flat with a few rollers the run course is two loops on a pretty shaded trail.  My only complaint was that the transition area last year was a little small, but it wasn't that big of a deal.  Overall I enjoyed the race.  I think that due to the smaller size of the race it is a great race for beginners.  You didn't need a map in the transition area like you do for Chisago.

Weather could be a factor for this one being that it is a week later than last year, but hey it's Minnesota and as long as the lake isn't frozen I'll race.

Just signed up for this one yesterday since it got moved from the week prior.  Will be the last tri for my season, I couldn't have my last race be in August!

I'm in with my wife.  It will be the last of the year.  We are a little sad though, with this race being pushed back a week and our season starting hockey tournament being pushed up a week, they are now both on the same weekend.  But hey 3 hockey games and a triathlon, that's what I spent all summer training for right?  I did the race last year and the course is good.  Chip timing this year will help.

Me and my lack of training are in.  Couldn't get a new bike this summer and not race with it.  Looking forward to it.

Did it last year. Very nice small race.
Lake was very low last year and kind of weedy.
I wish it didn't compete with Park Tool Duathlon the day before.
Hard to do both.

Huh - I hadn't heard of that one.  I see it's identical to the Oakdale Duathlon.  Problem solved, you can just do that in May!

Looks like it's going to be dry tomorrow, so that is nice.  It's funny how 50 degrees feels so much warmer in the spring than it feels now, though.  See you there bright and early.

I'm not usually one to do this, but I am THRILLED about performance this morning.  No results posted yet, but I came in 4th overall, 3rd man, and 2nd in my age group.  That was a great race for me!  Woo-hoo!!!

Congrats!  Water was quite chilly, I had the opposite end of the spectrum today, probably my worst race this year.

New wetsuit - still way tight in the shoulder areas
Sighting was horrible
Bike somehow my chain dropped from the big chainring to the bottom bracket from when I left it, to when I ran it to the mount line.  I ended up horizontal with the pavement, some road rash and bruised ego.
After getting out of the park on the main road, I missed the right turn sign, and passed my turn, having to loop back to get on the course, funny every other corner had a person there directing, yet the only sign I missed did not.
Trail running sucks if you are not ready for it.  Horrible footing and was worried about rolling an ankle especially in the loose rock or one of 3 or 4 bridge deals.

Race was alright, the trail running was the part that would make me hesitate doing this again.  I think I ended up 10th overall and 2nd in AG as well, but highly disappointed with my performance today.

Nice work. Always great to finish the season (assuming) on a high note. What did you think of the race and course?

Overall, I liked the course.  I think there should have been one more beer stop and the run could have been a little better marked.  That said, I didn't have any real complaints about it.  The patches of rocks kind of sucked, but that was probably better than the mud that must have been underneath.  I wasn't expecting the trail run, but I found it to be a nice change to the regular running on roads and paved trails.

The swim was pretty standard, and the bike was pretty... though as jvanis said, a few more volunteers out there would have been nice.

I haven't decided what I think about the time trial start, but I'd certainly consider doing this race again.

Oops, water stop, that is.  I've been hashing too much and racing too little, apparently.

Oh and jvanis, I think we talked after the race 'cause I talked to someone who said they dropped their chain and went down.  It was nice to meet you more or less.

The race went well for me, the run was tricky with the loose gravel/rocks. I kind of enjoyed the time trial swim, it seemed a lot less congested on the course and could pace myself more then trying to keep up with my group. I overall thought the race was good. It was a tad bit cold, and the cold feet didn't help me much!!

I was at the end of the far rack.  Certainly possible that we talked in the middle.  I just don't remember.

Race was fun!  Congrats Aaron on your 1st AG place (you were wearing your paddling hat at the awards, right?  I should have said hi) and Jeff on your 2nd.  I was 3rd in my AG, so just missed the bling....sweatshirts, right?

I also was not ready for so much trail, especially that one long stretch of weed/grass mix where the footing was very suspect.  I just took it slow and easy through there to avoid any disiaster, resulting in a slower-than-planned run time for me.  The first mile I was right on pace at 7:30 and felt pretty good once my feet started to warm-up.  That whole first mile my feet were numb and it felt like I had a tennis ball under each arch.

I also was fretting before the race as to what to wear on the bike.  I ended up just wearing my Tri suit and no jacket of second layer.  Surprisingly, I stayed pretty warm on the bike, and only my arms got a little cool the last few miles.  Except for my frozen feet of course....

I will probably be back next year but more mentally ready for a trail run.

That was me. I thought about suggesting that we all meet somewhere, but I was under the impression that there were going to be half as many participants and we would magically find each other.

My feet felt the same. Between my feet being frozen-molded to my bike shoes and the orthotics in my running shoes, it felt more like a hockey puck. Strange feeling.

Chain of Lakes has been pretty cold and I did that in just the tri suit. So I knew I'd be ok, perhaps a little uncomfortable, but ok. It did take my legs a little while to warm up while on the bike, though. Had the race been wet like the forecast made it look earlier last week, it would have been a pretty miserable race. I'll consider doing this race again, but if it looks cold and wet I'd probably give it pass. And by the way, nice time and result on your race.

It is the type of start where triathletes line up by number and then take off one every so-many seconds.  We started every five seconds at One Last Tri.  Other types include mass starts where everyone takes off together or wave starts where age groups or other "waves" take off every few minutes.  There are plusses and minuses to each type.
