Total Time = 3h 05m 16s
Overall Rank = 433/636
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 53/67
Pre-race routine:

Woke up a few minutes late. Did some one-arm pull ups to stretch my legs - secret ninja trick.
Swim
  • 27m 9s
  • 1637 yards
  • 01m 39s / 100 yards
Comments:

Not such a stellar swim for me, but I'm happy to trade swim training for time on the bike - so I am satisfied.

Some chap deliberately & unnecessarily punched me twice while trying to swim past or over me; my response will probably ensure that he never does that again in a triathlon.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Actually, maybe I should get a sleeveless wetsuit for the speed advantage.
Transition 1
  • 03m 41s
Comments:

Not too bad. Nice to see my friends on the way into transition area.
Bike
  • 1h 25m 2s
  • 26.75 miles
  • 18.87 mile/hr
Comments:

I had to take it easy on the ride because I am dealing with right shin issues. So I upped cadence and did not put hard power into pedaling. I had planned for 18 mph and that's what I got. I am pretty sure I could have done at least 19.5 mph if I had not done 260 miles on the bike last week. Basically, I traded speed for the fun last week :-)
What would you do differently?:

Maybe not ride so much the week before!
Transition 2
  • 02m 13s
Comments:

Lots of BT people cheering us on. Thanks! My usual thought process when heading out on the run is... "argh...". So the support really helps.
Run
  • 1h 07m 11s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 10m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

Did a run/walk mix. It worked out very well. There were a bunch of us kind of grouped together pushing each other along.
What would you do differently?:

I have to train more. I am capable of at least 8 minute miles on a 10k.
Post race
Warm down:

I felt great.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Too much riding last week.

Event comments:

Love this race... BT dinner the night before, great course, great atmosphere, great volunteers, great organization, gel and heed on the course, and all my favorite people seem to show up. This is what good triathlons are all about.

Best of all, my time was 25 minutes faster this year.

Way to go Rori!  That's a great effort!

Yes, unfortunately if you don't spend much time swimming, its probably not going to equate to fast swim split.  Nonetheless, spending that time on the bike could very well be worth having a faster overall time.  Very sorry to hear you felt you were deliberately hit by another racer.  Lol, what exactly did you do them?

Nice work on the bike.  I can see how your legs could be a little sore from all the riding last week.  Nonetheless, a solid effort.

Nice job with the run.  I'm sure you greatly benefit from the run-walk method.  I hope you can get down to 8 minute miles for next year.

Congrats!

Hey am I one of your favourite people??

Great job out there. You coming out of the swim looking great.  For the record, I only punched your arm (I am pretty sure it was you.  Unless I punched someone else).  whatever you felt on your butt was most probably an illusion after swrestling with the guy during your swim.

Congrats Rori-you totally destroyed your time from last year! Strong work!!  Like you I think the best part of this race aside from the flat bike course is the chance to visit with friends and rehash the season.

Nice job.  We had almost the same bike time.  You must have been slightly ahead of me.  I just couldn't catch up.  I strive to be as fast as you one day.  Now rest those legs.
