the bear - 2010-08-31 4:09 AM Always have to laugh at New Englanders complaining about heat when it's still in the 80s! We call that a cool spell in august.

Yuuuup ... we call that "cold" in any month.

Strangely enough, I've gotten accustomed to the heat and even the humidity. If it's for running, I'll still go in the middle of the day, but I will adjust my pace, and I don't do anything longer than about 90 minutes if it's really hot. Biking or swimming, it doesn't matter.

I have lived in Mississippi my entire life, so heat and humidity are just a part of life, I really dont mind it except on the few days this summer when its was 103 with a heat index of 113 and the humidity was still high, that really put some hurt into running. I will still take a few horrible days like that over cold and snow in the winter any day of the week. I just got back from Las Vegas, and now understand what people say about dry heat, walking around in a full suit in 100+ degree temperatures without even breaking a sweat is just weird.

Thaitri - 2010-08-31 1:14 PM Why punish yourself... I think its just silly.  I run outside when I think its nice enought out.  If not I run indoors if not I sit on the couch. No issues...  Some of you guys should lighten up...  I do this for fun not to make $...

Most people do it in preparation for a potentially hot race.
Check out any of the IM Louisville race reports and you'll see what I mean.

Also... heat exhaustion is not something I think people should "lighten up" about... it's real and it's dangerous.

I can see training in the terrible heat if that is the temp most of the year.  I guess you just have no choice.  The fall in the NE is just awesome..  40's in the mornings 50's in the afternoons.. perfect...

Where did you get the idea that some of us are doing this for $, not for fun? I do all this stuff for fun. I find it's fun to push myself and not fun when I make excuses that it's too hot, too cold, too windy, too...etc.
