Overall Rank = 36/236
Age Group = Clydes
Age Group Rank = 1/12
Pre-race routine:

Had a later start time in the pool so did not wake up until 6:00am. Had a couple pieces of wheat toast, loaded the bike and gear and headed out for the hour drive to the race. Arrived about 7:15am for my 9:00am start time. Checked in and got staged in transition.
Event warmup:

Some light stretching poolside. Water temperature was 70F but looking forward to a pool swim after disaster in my first tri in open water.
Swim
  • 06m 47s
  • 330 yards
  • 02m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

Not too bad of a swim for me, felt ok for the entire portion, did get a little tired about halfway through but never felt out of control.
What would you do differently?:

Still lots of work to do on my swimming, feel like with the right training I could easily cut a minute off of this time for next year.
Transition 1
  • 00m 39s
Comments:

Pretty happy with transition, some difficulty slipping into shoes but otherwise pretty good. Ranked 14th overall on T1 time.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe I need a size larger shoe.
Bike
  • 33m 18s
  • 11 miles
  • 19.82 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Push myself more on the bike
Transition 2
  • 00m 37s
Comments:

Came out of bike shoes too quickly and struggled getting on left running shoe.
Run
  • 23m
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 24s  min/mile
Comments:

Pushed pretty good throughout the run, maybe had too much left from bike, although best 5K time I have ever had.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around for about 15 minutes

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Swimming and biking

Event comments:

All in all a good day and a great bunch of people. Thinking with swapping over from a hybrid to a road bike I should be able to see some good improvements in my bike times for next year and with continued swimming focus hoping to drop another 15 seconds/hundred off of my swim times. Definitely think that I could pick up 3 minutes in this race for next year, maybe more. If so, that time this year would have placed me top 3 in my age group for next year. We will see...

Course: Do to staggered starts and being the first one out of the water I had no one to contend with for the first 15 minutes of the ride until I caught a couple of stragglers from the prior group. This was probably good and bad for me as I seem to do better when I have others to feed off of and did not push myself as much as I should have.

I definitely think you can go top three once you have the road bike.  Great race and great to meet you.  I hope we get to see you occasionally here in Mo'town.
