Pre-race routine:

Went with Susan who drove. Was there 75' before race, plenty of time to setup. Not stressed.
Event warmup:

50m swim to get me acclimatized to constricting wetsuit
Swim
  • 18m 59s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 32s / 100 meters
Comments:

First 2/3 was ok. Then I got on the legs of a guy and I thought that would save me some effort. But he led me way off course, not once, not twice, but many times and I refused to smarten up and kept trusting him. I swam so close to the kayak and the life guard yelled, you're waaaaaay left! Should have been at least a minute faster!
What would you do differently?:

Be smart, don't follow the wrong guy.
Transition 1
  • 03m 7s
Comments:

Felt dizzy again while fighting to get wetusit off. For a while, all I saw were stars and I had to hold onto the bike rack.
What would you do differently?:

I need to move much slower during transition to avoid the dizziness.

Comments:

This is a very hilly bike course. My bike doesn't have enough gears for some of the climbs. A lot of people were walking up the hill. I'm glad I didn't but I struggled quite a bit. Some parts I was riding at 7kph with a cadence in the 50's and a HR of 160. There were also many 90 degree turns which I took quite slowly. As a result, I didn't do as well on the bike relative to normal. I passed many people, but not as many as I usually do. But top speed was 67kph, which is pretty fast by my std.
I also was too lazy to take off my wheel cover, which is not helpful on a course like this. But I just wanted to experiment to see how my ride would be affected by a wheel cover on a hilly course, and now I know.
What would you do differently?:

Get a new bike with a compact crank and a rear cluster with more teeth. Remove wheel cover for hilly course.
Transition 2

Comments:

400m on the run course, I was passed by another person in my AG. I wanted to keep up to her, but she's obviously a better runner as I saw the gap grew larger and larger. She ended up winning the AG, and is my biggest rival for the series. I think this is the first time she beat me. I had a bigger gap on the bike all the other times when she did not beat me. However, it was a very decent run for me. I kept an even sub 9 pace, high Z3.

200m to the finish line, I saw ahead of me, another person in my AG. She's stopped to a walk. I muster up all the energy I have to pass her and kept sprinting to the finish line, worrying that she's going to start running and catch up. As I crossed the finish line, I turned around. She's not there. After a min, she leisurely strolled in, wearing a red Duathlon bib. All that hard work, and she's not even in my division!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I lost to a better runner.
Post race
Event comments:

Both Susan and I came 2nd in our AG. Seems like we've a habit of getting the same placing when we race together.
