Swim
Comments: I started in the back on the left (furthest away from the bouys). I didn't have to fight anyone and really swam pretty slow at the beginning. I probably could have mixed it up a bit more or started more towards the front of the pack. What would you do differently?: Start at the front and take a more direct line to the bouy. Possible look to draft off of a faster swimmer. Transition 1
What would you do differently?: I could go a little faster but it wasn't horrible either. Bike
Comments: The wind was pretty strong out of the SE. For the first two laps I stayed in my big chain ring and tried to mash the gears keeping my cadence above 80 but it hurt me badly. I'm used to spinning around 90-100 rpm during races and the 80 range made me tired and my thighs were burning badly from the very first hill through to the end. What would you do differently?: I didn't shift down into my smaller chain ring on the hills until the last lap. Doing so allowed me to pick up a mile/hr or two in the uphills and would have saved my legs a bit more. Transition 2
Comments: I came in and ran down the wrong set of racks and lost track of where I was. It took me way too long in transition. What would you do differently?: Make sure I put my bike on an end so I don't have to try and figure it out when I am tired. Run
Comments: Way too slow. I think my bad bike and mashing of gears burned up my legs. I don't like this run course either too much off road and unsteady footing. At some point I tweaked my ankle a bit and I also got a side ache about 1/2 way through. I tried to pace myself behind a 33 yr old who passed me but I couldn't hang at all. What would you do differently?: Spin in smaller gears on the bike. Don't run a race where you have to run off road again. Post race
Warm down: Not much - grabbed a bottle and drank some water. What limited your ability to perform faster: Poor judgement on the bike and getting lost in T2 Last updated: 2010-08-31 12:00 AM

Ate an english muffin with PB and 1/2 Coke Zero about 2:45 minutes before the race. I actually felt hungry right before the start.
Did a little swimming to get used to the water but other than that none.
