Swim
Comments: Great way to start a race. Water temp was no issue...I could sight for crap so I kept left and watched for arms and caps to guide me in...I swam over a ton of people and caught a number of people in the waves in front of me. What would you do differently?: sight better Transition 1
Comments: T1 was ok. I walked from the platform up the stairs from the water and across the timing mat to T1. I jogged to my bike and proceeded to get my stuff together. What would you do differently?: run the whole way...got to get to less than 2 mins. Bike
Comments: really challenging course. Lots of turns and hills...took it steady on the hills and it paid off. I couldnt make the hills in my training ride on Thursday. First hill was a warm up, followed up by a fun decent that would be the final climb of the day...Pretty much stayed with a group of a riders all riding about the same. Few people passed me..Hitting the hill by the Cliff House is where I started making a move. I had a great climb passing a bunch of people who passed me earlier on the downhills...never to be seen again...Seal Rock hill was nasty, the only time I actually got out of the saddle. Flew down the hill to the golf course turn. The last hill was a buster. I just locked in and started climbing...again passing a bunch of downhill passers...again never to be seen again...hit 40mph on the final decent, what a rush.... What would you do differently?: climb faster on the hills...need to train on more hills... Transition 2
Comments: took a breather and sucked down a gel. Put socks on for the run. Race Winner crossed as I was in transition...not happy about that but oh well.... What would you do differently?: nada.. but need to get this down to about 1 min.... Run
Comments: I took off out of T2..could not feel my feet...averaged 8:30ish in the first 2 miles...then came the stairs...I ended up powerwalking the stairs and trying to deal with the masses. Enjoyed the coastal trail and the potential ankle rollers until the downhill at Lincoln. Slip slided my way through the sand until the climb up the Sand Ladder. I powerwalked up the ladder in about 3:42 and the rest of the uphill. I picked it up on the downhill to the flats and the return back to the marina. Turned on the burners with about 0.5 mile to go... What would you do differently?: More hill and stair work... Post race
Warm down: walked around, got some food and talked to a few other racers. Met the other 2 people from WI, one of which finished right behind me on the run. Got all my gear and we walked about 0.75mi to the car while cheering on other runners. Event comments: Excellent race, especially considering it was the Inaugural Race...definitely a potential return...highly recommended. Last updated: 2010-05-11 12:00 AM

Got up at 3:30 and packed up the car to head to the race. Had some pop tarts, cinnamon raisin bagel with a Vitamin Water. Had an Egel just prior to start of the race.
Got to transition area and set up. Jumped on the bus to go to the Pier. Got bodymarked, hit the portapotties and chilled by the water for a little while. Got on the Hornblower to head out to the start line.
