I know we have their own changing rooms to strip naked during T1/T2 ... but how do you handle, with bare minimum modesty, putting on copious amounts of chamois cream in T1, and then using a Body-glide stick in T2?  I'm planning on complete clothes changes during both since time is not of the essence for me.

Just having the chamois cream already in my awaiting bike shorts may not be enough; hand down the shorts to apply more to get through?  Do you dry off the nether region before the bike shorts go on?

In T2 I will use body-glide so the shorts liner doesn't chafe.  This gets applied in the highest regions of the thigh to the crease.  Again, hand down (or under) the shorts - or before shorts?

Sorry for the graphical accounts and funny/cringe-inducing images you might get, but hey, these are important concerns!

Thanks for your advice!

I worked T1 and T2 changing tent at IMFL.

Don't worry put on body glide and chamois butt'r as needed. There is very little modesty and I saw more naked women that day than in my life x100 or 500.  Do what you need to do to make you comfortable for your day.

No one cares and others are doing the same thing you need to do.

Spectating IMKY last year, I drove past special needs and there was a woman standing on the side of the road facing traffic with her hand down her pants, reapplying chamois butter. I would not worry about any embarrassment in the changing tent!

I fully intend to stick my hands down my pants in T1 and possibly at bike special needs if necessary. Heck I did it in a parking lot in front of complete strangers a few weeks ago in the midst of a 90-mile ride. Gotta do what you gotta do.

As to your questions, if you are wanting to be modest, just put your hands up/down your shorts after they are on. But applying creams and body glide completely naked will not be an unusual sight for anyone in that tent, I promise you. Whatever you feel most comfortable with.

Just a word of caution--if whatever you're using in T1 can solidify more due to cooler temps, and cooler temps are possible at your race, you could have a problem. I'm a fan of Aquaphor, and had that to slather in T1 during IMAZ last year, but it was a chilly evening (your bags are outside) and morning and somewhat solid Aquaphor is NOT easy to apply. Thankfully it wasn't a major deal for me at all, but thought I'd share my lesson learned.

There is no modesty in IM T1 and T2.  Just go for it.

Another tip that worked well since I was using Bag Balm in both T1 and T2 is to have some paper towel packed with the stuff you'll be using for a quick hand wipe or at least it works well with BB since it's kinda of thick.  Better then wiping your hand on your clothes.

^^^I did exactly that last year and was not the only one!  I had a gentleman hand me my bike SN bag and before I did it said "I hope you don't mind, I'm going to stick my hand down my shorts to put more chanois butt'r on..." i was so embarrased.  He goes "oh sweety, I've seen it a thousand times already today! You go right ahead and don't mind me!"  He was so nice!!

DAR - do what you gotta do!!!  Everyone else is so freaked out changing that they won't even be looking, and the T1 helper has probable seen everyone he helped before you do exactly the same thing.  Make sure you're comfy for 112 or 26.2 miles - don't skip something you'd normally do.  the transition helpers know going in that they're going to see...lots!

GOOD LUCK!!! Hope to see you out there!!

X3.  I did the same thing at SN at IMCDA last year.  A lady handed me my bag, I grabbed the butt'r and shoved my hand down my pants and put more on.  The volunteers don't care and I don't really care either.  I would rather not be in pain than be modest.  I will echo what was said above.  Do what you gotta do and throw modesty out the window.  Good luck on Sunday.

Thanks for the advice and experiences all.  This reassures me that nothing (almost nothing) will be out of the no-modesty norm.
