Pre-race routine:

Normal morning routine... Talk story with Ken and Tommy boy.
Event warmup:

Went for a swim in the river. Nice and cool.
Swim
  • 22m 26s
  • 1094 yards
  • 02m 03s / 100 yards
Comments:

Easy swim. I felt refreshed and warmed up for the rest of the event. Breathing was relaxed and normal.

I'm still trying to figure out how hard to push on the swim and still have enough in the tank for a good bike and run. Water was awesome aside from the stupid hydrilla. I was really think in some places and I actually contemplated pulling on it so see if I could go faster

What would you do differently?:

get out in front so I don't have to deal with the traffic
Transition 1
  • 02m 44s
Comments:

slow. fumbled around with shoes and socks. Wasted time putting on elbow pads.
What would you do differently?:

Bring H2O bottle to spray down feet. Dusty on the way into transition. Made for very muddy and sandy feet in socks and shoes. Don't waste time on elbow pads. Go w/o next time
Bike
  • 1h 11m 11s
  • 16 miles
  • 13.49 mile/hr
Comments:

Freegin DNF!!!! Due to mechanicals (plural) was having a good race for the 1st mile. Flatted on sharp limestone. I did not have ANY problems with flats during the pre-ridethe day before. Two freegin flats. I brought 2 extra tubes but apparently not enough CO2. after the second flat I had to dicth and ride the road back to T2. I was ` 6 miles from the trail end but had very little air pressure in the tire so I had to cut my loss and try to get back to the road. My tire and tube were shredded when I got back to t2. A t2 I told on myself and officially DOR'ed. I told them I wanted to still get a run split. The race directors patted me on the back and told me to get afterit.
What would you do differently?:

Equip my bike with tubeless tires, try not to get so many freegin flats.
Transition 2
  • 03m 10s
Comments:

took my sweet time. Changed socks, downed a go.
What would you do differently?:

if it counted, hurry the heck up.
Run
  • 55m 14s
  • 5.5 miles
  • 10m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

did OK. was really hot out there and walked a bunch. I suppose I was not pushing as hard since I was jus doing the run for fun at this point
What would you do differently?:

run the entire time.
Post race
Warm down:

jumped back in river to cool off. Talked story with big bad Brant and Tommy boy. Ate a hamberger and drank a free NxNW beer

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Multiple flats on bike. Severe lack to push myself past may comfort zone on the run once I officially dropped out of the race.

Event comments:

Great race. I just wish I could have finished the bike part w/o a mechanical. There is always next year.
