I was planning on competing in this race next year because it wasn't an M-dot race, now I'm not sure. Registration opened today at noon.

Oh crap! NOOO!
This was the best independent half EVER.
No offense to M-dot.

Crap, i bet it just went up about $150 over last year's price.

WOW!!!  I was also considering this in the future as a cheap and (relatively) close HIM. Just checked the prices... $200 through the end of the year, then up to $225....

Truly a sad day for those of us that prefer well run independent races.

At this rate, I'll be surprised if there are any independent HIMs left...seems like WTC is literally buying them all up. Must be a good financial incentive for the RDs cause it seems like they are all doing it.

I had it on the list to do next year. Now, I don't know. I just can't justify spending that kind of coin on a half distance. Rats.

After they took over Racine for the 2010 race I figured a well respected and well run race like Muncie may end up on there radar.  I better get out to Vegas and do Silverman before that gets sucked up by the Wal Mart of triathlon.

The one thing I'm shocked to see is that there going to still have a sprint.  Bet it won't be long til that's gone due to the numbers attending the half.

Still in the July heat, though. And early in the season for those of us up north who can't cycle outside until late march, at best.

Attendance at last week's Great Illini Challenge at Lake Mattoon was off this year, and the weather was a lot better than July.. Maybe this will help.

I am noticing a lot more of this type of thought.  It seems a lot us were attracted to the idea of doing something many can't/won't do.  Now that it is becoming big business they may be getting away from their core.  I for one like the consistency and expectation...but I witnessed a friend do a 70.3 up in Napa last year and it was very low key...and part of me liked that.  I also like the attraction of silverman.  Do you think there is any coincidence in IM branded races selling out so fast when some of these other races were open for a lot longer?

Awesome. I'm already signed up. I'm in Kona this year and might as well do Cheatwater next year. I do the race every year so I'm not going to sign up b/c it went Mdot.
