Overcast
Total Time = 4h 15m 21s
Overall Rank = 1066/1077
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 57/57
Pre-race routine:

Up at 3:30,breakfast- honey nut cheerios with fat free milk. left hotel at 4, got to site before 4:30. Parked set up transition...end of rack, counted racks, used the RR, ate a banana and a couple of PowerBar Gel Blasts (the one's with caffeine). Chatted with rack mates and ran into a friend.
Event warmup:

Got out in the water once before race started, and once while waiting for my wave..40 minutes after the 1st wave.
Swim
  • 35m 35s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 22s / 100 meters
Comments:

Wow! that wetsuit made a difference, felt so much better, breathing was not as constricted. Also didn't have song stuck in my head like at my last tri.
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster, tri to draft more.
Transition 1
  • 08m 37s
Comments:

Really slow, ate a few bites of PowerBar, had some gelblasts, and some G2. Cold mad the wetsuit difficult to remove.
What would you do differently?:

move faster to get out of the wetsuit
Bike
  • 1h 56m 9s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 12.84 mile/hr
Comments:

Was off the bike for over a week due to traveling for a job interview. What can I saw, uphills were hard, downhills were my favorite. Very few turns, had to watch out for speed bumps. At least I didn't crash. Did not use aid station.
What would you do differently?:

Ride more hilly routes in training. Put another water bottle carrying device on my bike. Practice aid station exchanges.
Transition 2
  • 06m 26s
Comments:

Long time, took a few more bites of Powerbar and G2. Putting on Vibrams takes longer than regular shoes, but at least there are no laces to worry about.
What would you do differently?:

Move faster.
Run
  • 1h 28m 33s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 14m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

Paced running and walking in an attempt to maintain a 14-14:30 min per mile pace. Took a potty break along the run. Good amount of aid stations along the run, just got water no accelerade as I hadn't trained with it. Was able to run without pain in shins.
What would you do differently?:

Try to maintain a faster pace. Train with the nutrition on the course.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around expo, ate, walked to transition, walked to the car (long walk)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of appropriate training.

Event comments:

Disappointed I didn't win the weekend at the Wynn resort in Vegas. Otherwise happy with my performance, improved time as compared to Strawberry Fields, even with longer and hillier bike course in Malibu.

Congrats on the finish.

(My wife and I actually may have been cheering you on at the finish...she'd just finished up volunteering at the finish line right before you would have come in and we were spectating a bit before heading to the car.)
