Precipitation
Total Time = 2h 24m 7s
Overall Rank = 23/107
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 5/16
Pre-race routine:

Granola, long drive, package pick-up, race!
Event warmup:

Just some dry land work, a short jog and a few stretches.
Swim
  • 26m 15s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 45s / 100 meters
Comments:

All in all a good swim. A bit on the slow side, but I was trying to hold a bit back since it was my first Olympic distance triathlon and I didn't want to gas out later. Managed to get into a well paced group for drafting and stayed close enough with the lead 2 or 3 of that group to pass them all at the end.
What would you do differently?:

Go all out! I would have been fine.
Transition 1
  • 01m 53s
Comments:

Surprissed to see I ranked 13th in T1! Historically I suck at transitions, so this is a real boost. Doing a few of these races has made me calmer and more methodical in transition.
What would you do differently?:

Gotta get some tri shoes for the bike and do the jump.
Bike
  • 1h 17m 49s
  • 40 kms
  • 30.84 km/hr
Comments:

This marks the first time I averaged over 30 kph in a triathlon. I'm happy with the time, but all the same I see where I can improve. The bike is surely my weak suit and it HAS to improve between now and next season.
What would you do differently?:

Trai, train, train.
Transition 2
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

Wow! I kept the transition train rolling into T2. Time was good enough for 11th! Momma, this makes me happy.
Run
  • 37m 9s
  • 10 kms
  • 03m 43s  min/km
Comments:

Felt strong throughout this run. I've easily improved most in this discipline this year. I may not be a whole lot faster, but my comfort level is, well, on a whole different level. I managed to pass many people and only got passed by two guys who were obviously very serious and in a heated battle.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure, train even more I guess.
Post race
Warm down:

Both calves and shins were threatening to cramp after the line so I stretched em out.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training of course.

Event comments:

I really enjoyed this race! Mmmmm pizza and chips! Now that's a good post race meal, forget this muffin and smoothie shit.

Course: Well, it was a nice course, minus the wet sand running. Running in wet sand is slightly better than dry sand I'd imagine but it can't be good all the same. Also, given my time and the fact that I wasn't wearing rockets strapped to my shoes I reckon this course was about 1.5 to 2k short. Which makes sense since last year the run was 4k.
