Set Up Events
83F / 28C
Sunny
Total Time = 6h 23m 3s
Overall Rank = 283/385
Age Group = MC
Age Group Rank = 9/18
Pre-race routine:

Really running late because of the kids caused me some issues but got through it with about 5 minutes to spare and no dead children. ate bowl of cereal and a cliff bar.
Event warmup:

Swam a couple 100 meters
Swim
  • 44m 33s
  • 1931 meters
  • 02m 19s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swam easy felt good buoys kept drifting around, should have swam a little harder but got out of the water feeling good. I did swim right past the last turn buoy, was spotting this old tower and did not realize how short the second segment was. Noticed no one around me and saw I had swam about 100 meters past the turn. Current kept pushing me to the right on the swim in.
What would you do differently?:

Swim harder and not miss the turn buoy.
Transition 1
  • 05m 47s
Comments:

Long, long run to transition and was slow getting my bike shoes on
What would you do differently?:

speed up on the run to transition
Bike
  • 2h 58m 7s
  • 56 miles
  • 18.86 mile/hr
Comments:

Pretty flat course seemed like it was constantly going up to me, but that might have just been me. Saw alot of small groups drafting. Got in a pretty good, comfortable pace stayed on by aero bars more than I have ever before. bike felt pretty good. I felt good getting off the bike
What would you do differently?:

I maybe could have rode a little harder but I did die deep in the run so that might have been it?
Transition 2
  • 03m 25s
Comments:

Transition was fine but I was about to explode so stopped by the port-a-potty in transition for a lengthy stop
What would you do differently?:

Nothing I could do about the stop I guess otherwise it went fairly well
Run
  • 2h 31m 13s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 11m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

Ran to mile 6 aid station no stops my plan was to run to mile 10 and then walk aid stations if I needed. had to walk aid station and eat some oranges at mile 6 and walked through the aid stations for the remainder of the course. right past mile 11 I really had to slow my pace and walked a wood bridge for some reason it made my knee hurt to run on the bridge so I walked. I kept running after the bridge but my pace was really gone, about as slow as I can run. I think everyone in the race passed me on the run??
What would you do differently?:

not be fat. I really hoped that doing a half marathon early in the season would help my run since I would be concentrating on it solely but I may be slower this year????
Post race
Warm down:

Hung out with friends who also did the race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My run sucks

Event comments:

Set up puts on good events
