Pre-race routine:

Everything ready the night before
Event warmup:

short swim
Swim
  • 1h 00m 39s
  • 4224 yards
  • 01m 26s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started way to the left (right in front of cannon). I stayed way left the whole way to stay to avoid the pack. I am not used to contact when I swim and dont like it. I enjoyed the swim and felt good getting out of the water
What would you do differently?:

It was my first IM so I was very conservative. Next year I get in the pack and swim harder. I will cut six minutes
Transition 1
  • 05m 46s
Comments:

Wetsuite strippers rock. Volunteers were excellent. A guy helped me do everything as we had a nice chat.
What would you do differently?:

hurry up but really I enjoyed this part of the race. There wasn't a ton of people in the tent and it was kind of nice.
Bike
  • 6h 11m 16s
  • 112 miles
  • 18.10 mile/hr
Comments:

So many good bikers here. I road the way I planned, always holding back. The public that was out there to cheer made me smile the whole way. What a fun bike ride. The only problem for me was riding 112 miles takes a toll on my legs regarless of not riding hard. Factor in all the hills and wow it was serious ride
What would you do differently?:

See about getting a time machine so I can train more on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 05m 46s
Comments:

Another awesome volunteer helped me get ready to go. We joked around a little. The transitions were fun like no other race I've done.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe they can get some mean people to work in transition so its not so nice and that will hurry people up. I was slow in transition but I am not really racing for much other than to finish the distance. Transition was a bit of break for me and I liked it.
Run
  • 5h 17m 39s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 12m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

My bike was conservative but my legs were wasted. So many hills to climb. It seems this part is more about what came first. I've never ran more than 13.1 miles and I did that once a year prior. My plan was to run slow but to run the whole way. I ran slow but not the whole way. I felt like I was cheating when I wasnt running. My legs were on the edge of cramping the enitre way. I left a little rock in my left shoe as I was afraid if I bent over to get it out I would cramp and not be able to get back up. Hot day and a long way to go. Still it was fun
What would you do differently?:

I want to be able to run and not walk any of it.
Post race
Warm down:

I had a free massage. They had to wipe a ton of salt off me first but wow I am not a massage guy I have maybe three in my life but I can't recommend it more. I know it helped me feel better faster. Again great people everywhere

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being sick throught the winter and being busy

Event comments:

I am so thanfull to my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
I had been battling cramping problems leading up to this race. In fact I cramped in bed the night before the race. I didn't cramp once during the race. I am so thankfull to have had the opportunity to do this.
