Total Time = 2h 15m 39s
Overall Rank = 5/450
Age Group = 20-24
Age Group Rank = 2/18
Pre-race routine:

Drove up the night before to settle into the hotel. Woke up around 4:30 and crammed food down. We arrived at the park around 5:45 where there was already a line. We moved through the parking area with no light and moved to transition.
Event warmup:

2 miles biking
about 300 yards swimming
Swim
  • 25m 31s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 34s / 100 yards
Comments:

Really disappointed once my dad told me the time at the end of the race. Everything else went so well and I really felt fast/worked my ass off on the swim. I couldn't figure out what happened. After seeing the group results and knowing the times were whacky, I felt much better.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing... except... stupid goggle fog.
Transition 1
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

This was the first time with the aero helmet. My transition sucked because I was trying not to break stuff. Ha. Sunglasses were the biggest problem and I think I have that figured out.
What would you do differently?:

Use different sunglasses that stretch to the size of the helmet. I couldn't find them before I left and it easily cost me 10 seconds of fumbling.
Bike
  • 1h 07m 30s
  • 26.1 miles
  • 23.20 mile/hr
Comments:

Great ride. Played leapfrog with a Clemson/Auburn kid for the first 4 miles then on the long hill at about mile 5, I passed him and said, "if we keep this up it's going to be a long ride." Did not see him again. The rest of the ride was chasing people down and focusing on keeping my HR in the happy zone.
What would you do differently?:

Push the last 3 miles harder. I obviously had enough in the tank for the run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 2s
Comments:

Frustrating. I couldn't tell where the volunteers wanted me to dismount. As I was going down the hill they kept pointing at the ground like the dismount line was right infront of them. I literally lost about 10 seconds there. ugh. Everything else went great except, I forgot Senor Garmin. 5 steps and I U-turned to get it. It's my lifeline and my best friend.
What would you do differently?:

Not forget the Garmin. Cost me about 5 seconds.
Run
  • 40m 2s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 06m 27s  min/mile
Comments:

Best run of my life. Period. 6:27 miles and didn't feel like death. Stayed calm but still pushed the pace. I haven't looked at HR data but I'm pretty certain it's where I wanted it.
What would you do differently?:

Push the last mile, fool! I treated it like it was the rest of the race. It wouldn't have helped me overall rank but PR wise, it would have been good. Guess I just saved it for Nationals ;)

Post race
Warm down:

They were handing out mix-1's at the race. I don't know what they're for but I chugged the heck out of one once it was in my hand.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing. I'm right where I want to be before the "A" race.

Event comments:

Event started late because the ambulance was late. Not the event's fault.
A great race and a must do each year. Very challenging with the hills but wonderful atmosphere.

Great race...swim was long, no way around it.  I wanted a sub-2:40 and did not get it because the swim.  oh well.  Your run looks like it is ready for Nats.  You were strong on a very hard course.  :40 on that course is bragging rights.  Little more work then tapper...look out Nats!
