Overall Rank = 324/404
Age Group = F25-29
Age Group Rank = 22/31
Pre-race routine:

I really am starting to hate bananas. Blech
Event warmup:

I jumped in the water and just stood there to get used to the temperature
Swim
  • 43m 8s
  • 1914 yards
  • 02m 15s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was really happy with my swim. I tried for the first part to stay close to the group and draft, but it was making me panic so I swam way out to the side again. Fortunately with this course it wasn't adding as much extra distance as that strategy usually does.

The only downside being that on the way back, I was so far away that I felt like I was the only person in the water and I started thinking, "I'm last! I'm last!!!" Until I stopped and looked up and saw the sea of people swimming about 100 ft to my left.
What would you do differently?:

Work on getting used to swimming with people kicking and punching me, maybe
Transition 1
  • 05m 19s
Comments:

Yeah, I took a long time. Mainly because I tried choking down another banana before heading out, and I almost threw it back up. So it took me a while to eat. I also wasn't in a huge rush :)
What would you do differently?:

Give up on trying to eat bananas
Bike
  • 3h 07m 28s
  • 56 miles
  • 17.92 mile/hr
Comments:

I was prepared for the wind and the hills, but I was definitely not prepared for how boring and tedious this ride was. I didn't realize how much I relied on things to look at for cycling to be enjoyable to me. There was absolutely nothing on this course, and that was mentally challenging to me.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more water, demand the other cyclists tell me a story.
Transition 2
  • 04m 40s
Comments:

Eh, wasn't in much of a rush for this one either. Just glad to be off the bike.
What would you do differently?:

eat more?
Run
  • 2h 32m 10s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 11m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

Yeah, I blew up for this one, which I expected. I ended up having to walk/run after the turn around point.
What would you do differently?:

Train?
Post race
Warm down:

Slip and Slide, then food!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough training (which I knew going into it)

well, for not doing enough training you still finished respectably.  Nice job!  I agree the bike course is not the most scenic but I like the rolling hills and there is not too much vehicle traffic.  Hope you get out there again.

Thanks! You're right, I did enjoy the hills, although that magical headwind was a beast. I'm going to have to carve time out to really train and attack the course next year

You did great!  Congratulations!  This year we had a tail wind on Quincy.  It made riding back to the transition area better.

Great race! That wasn't a magic headwind, that was you really hauling it for 56 miles. Just think of the endless amber waves of brown grass being the price you had to pay to get to the slip and slide, and it makes it all worth it.
