Perhaps go out harder. I did not push the pace since I have not done this distance before

Great job out there in some sloppy conditions. The thought of turning around passed thru my mind, but then I got mad.

Lucky (I think) for me I did Quakerman in the rain last year, so I threw a few trashbags in for good measure so at least I could keep my stuff somewhat dry so that paid off somewhat. I still had a big wet pile of stuff though, and my bike was a disaster.

Your swim time was great, especially given the long run-up from the lake, and the bike had a few hairy spots as well. Based on previous years, the shade on the run was a good thing.

Congrats on finishing your first Half Ironman!
