I finished 3/39 in my AG at a USAT sanctioned sprint and according to the USAT Nationals website:

Any non-championship USAT sanctioned (any distance as explained above) event will qualify the top 10 percent or top finisher (whichever is greater) in each age group.

** Note: If there are 25 athletes in your age group and you place 3rd or higher you have qualified for the 2009 Age Group Nationals. If you place 4th out of 25 you have not qualified.

Does this mean I qualified for the AG Nationals if I wanted to compete in them?  The answer seems obvious, I just wanted to be double sure... I've been wrong before on things.

Yes, if it was USAT sanctioned and that was your final result, you qualified.

Sure looks like it. The downside there is, from what you quoted, you've qualified for the 2009 nationals, which I'd imagine have already happened.

All kidding aside, if you're really curious, I'd contact the USAT and ask.

OK thanks for the clarification, appreciate the second opinions.  Someone (been in the triathlon game much longer than I have) had suggested to me that I hadn't, but the line I quoted above says otherwise.  Thanks all.

BTW, the information on their site is all over the place with mixture of dates and stuff... i.e. the 2009 mention.

You made it.  I placed 2nd out of 19 in my first race this year.  To be sure I emailed USAT and they confirmed 2nd out of 19 met the standard per the roundup rule you mention.

Congrats on 3rd, that's quite an accomplishment given there were 39 in your AG.

Intersting, I just realized I qualified as well.  Too bad it's the day before Ironman Augusta.  I wouldn't stand a chance in hell of placing but still neat to find out.

I believe I read that you have to be an annual member, not just paid the $10 for that race.  (bummed about that part.  I would have seen you there!)

Actually as 3 of 39 you qualified, and if you did the race this past weekend, I believe you can register for this year or next year.  I'm looking for the letter I got from USAT regarding that right now.

Must be on my home computer...  Contact USAT and they should confirm.

from their website: http://www.usatriathlon.org/events/47/page/1574

For the 2011 Age Group National Championship in Burlington, VT qualification can be met between September 1, 2010 and August 12, 2011.

That race was a few weeks ago... next year would probably work better for planning sake since the race is almost upon me.  My race last weekend was a HIM where I finished 11/90 AG, 31st overall... lots of AG competition in that one.  Kind of cool that I qualified though in the very least for this years race.

One of my athletes is doing both.  He's racing the Olympic on Saturday and then heading over to Augusta for the 70.3.

Good stuff!!

Yes you did qualify, but don't forget that if someone from your AG was pulled out for the overall placing you have to count them as in your ag as well.  Not that I think it'd matter in this instance, since if one of the oa's you'd be 4/40 and still qualify and if two from your ag made oa then you really were 5/41, which with the round-up rule you'd still be in the top 10%.

Nope that race had a young crowd on the podium... think one or two of them had Team USA kits on... missed them at awards since I was off socializing.  Anyway, cool that I qualified I guess, but too short of notice really at this point.  Probably do a few Olympics close to home and call it a season.
