Subject: Off season goals
My last tri of the season was this past Saturday.

Here is my plan/goals til the spring and things start up again:

Swimming: Learn to breathe to both sides every 1.5 strokes.  I'm currently a sub 1:40 guy breathing to one side so this should help.  I start my masters swim class next week to help out with this.  I'm planning on swimming 2 times a week.

Bike:  Buy a tri bike.  The debate in my mind is over and I've decided I want to get a tri bike this off season.  My only other plans are to get one long ride in a week either on the trainer or road, weather permitting.

Run:  My weakest link.  I signed up for the Nation's Marathon in March.  I've talked about this for over a year now.  I finally registerred and I am looking into trainging programs.

Other:  Weight and subsequent overheating has always been a problem for me.  I've dropped from 215 to 200 to 180.  At 6'0-ish I'm looking to drop down to 160~5 by the time the season starts back up again.  Also, I'm going to try and get my abs back to normal and I am incorporating 2 core decidated gym sessions every week.

How about the rest of the class?  What are your plans/goals this off season?!?

Not become a lard butt...

again.

That's about it. Of course I've still got two months until my A race for the fall and then another A race 6 months after that so I'm not seeing the couch potato thing happening beyond a couple weeks.

Continue to progress in all 3 disciplines.  I'm mediocre at all three so all 3 will get attention.  In the process I'd like to get to sub 10% bf.

Bricks every week.  Start with low distances and build it up to the recommended brick distances for a HIM.

No off season. I have a mid-November HIM than a marathon in December. Will continue with training for early spring HIM. I got a lot of catching up to do and need to keep cranking away.

My season lasts untill Dec.  It ends just before I need to start early season training for my spring races...  BUT, I want to try to maintain base, maybe do some cross training, and try not to put on the winter weight I fight to get back off each spring.

I'm focusing on my running mostly. I just started an 18 week half marathon program, after I will gear my training to be more tri-specific in preparation for spring. I hope to get a swim coach so that I can improve my swimming, and I want to take spin classes over the winter.

Off season plan - try to improve all 3 sports, but at least running/cardiovascular endurance!

My plan is to drop the distance portion of things and focus a lot on speed on the short courses.

I'd really like to be able to break 2:15 at a local Oly here in town, so I'll probably make that my A race and just do some marathons and sprints in the middle to keep myself honest. My friend is trying to get me to do a HIM, but I think that requires more endurance work than I'd like to do.

Not much of an off season 'round these parts.  Last tri will be Thanksgiving weekend; first race of 2011 (looks like it'll be a half marathon) will be Feb. 6.

If I manage to qualify for Boston at Long Beach next month, then the winter will be all about maintaining my run fitness for that.

Last event Oct 2 the a half marathon mid November.

Will drop the swimming significantly from October and start it up again in January (as much for convenience as anything else) - unless I can find a way to get in some sessions at lunchtimes.

Build-up my running miles significantly and keep it going after the half.

Probably a good long ride every weekend and some trainer work mid week.  Oct - Dec.

Stop completely for a short while over the holiday period.

Start building-up again Jan 1 ready for first sprint in April or early May.

Having spent most of this season either sick  or injured, I would vote for getting healthy again.  My leg healing ......getting back on the bike and running without pain.....oh, swim speed (it's all I can do these days anyway) and lose the toddler that seems to have climbed onto my butt with the summer of illness and injury!!

I am doing a HIM on Oct 3 and if all goes well, Ill sign up for a full IM for next September. The plan will probably be to just maintain shape, hit the bike trainer and do some light running till spring. Maybe do a P90x program. Then hit a training plan to prepare for the IM.

My main goal over the winter is to improve my swim time. I want to get down into the 1:2x time area for HIM swims. Currently I'm around 1:45 pace. Joining masters swim classes in October.

I'll also focus on keeping my weekly running mileage around 25-30 over the winter. This time next year my goal is to run a marathon to qualify for Boston in 2012. For me that's a 3:10:59 marathon or less, so I'll need to start upping the mileage in the early spring.

Bike leg is my strongest sport, so I want to maintain and slightly improve that as well.

Focusing on core exercises through yoga twice a week over the winter is also part of my plan.

Next season my plan is to do two HIM's, 2-3 half marathons, a marathon in the fall of 2011, and throw in a few sprint and Olympic distance races.

Prep for the Tokyo Marathon in February.

Get my swim distances to 3000m, and speed up.

Start getting 40+ mile bike rides in as cross training for the marathon.

70.3 prep for an unkown date early next season.

There is no offseason for me, only a slightly larger gap between races. Tongue out

I'm seriously tempted to spend a few months seeing how fast I can run a 5K.  I haven't fully committed to that project yet, though.  My season lasts until early November (B2B full), so I've got time to decide.
