Total Time = 2h 51m 5s
Overall Rank = 379/770
Age Group = M30-34
Age Group Rank = 57/80
Pre-race routine:

Woke up, had one piece of whole wheat toast with PB, wasn't very hungry. Had some water and a gel about 30 min before swim.
Event warmup:

Some light jogging and stretching, the swim out to the start buoy, minimal.
Swim
  • 37m 56s
  • 1640 meters
  • 02m 19s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim was a joke today, worse than ever I think. Stroke was just way bad, I wasn't rolling very well. Only my second time in the the suit, I don't think it was the suit, I may not be meant for full wetsuits though, it throws off my mechanics it seems. Very much needs work.
What would you do differently?:

Get some open water swimming lessons and practice! Sight better, and train more, I didn't do enough endurance training the last few months.
Transition 1
  • 03m 24s
Comments:

Been awhile since I've even done a transition, no brick training for months either, so overall I'm happy!
What would you do differently?:

Just be a little faster.
Bike
  • 1h 21m 24s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 18.32 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt like I was moving much faster than what my average was, but again without specific race training and the IT band injury I'm pretty happy. 2nd lap was faster than the 1st which was even better!! Felt like some good technical skills could really pay off on this course.
What would you do differently?:

Train hills and intervals more, continue technical skill improvement.
Transition 2
  • 02m 22s
Comments:

Again little transition practice over the months, I always feel like I'm forgetting something in T2! Had trouble locating the run out, but otherwise things were fine.
What would you do differently?:

Scout transition better!
Run
  • 45m 59s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 24s  min/mile
Comments:

My first run in over a month, literally. I didn't intend on doing this run, but my IT band felt good coming off the bike so I went for it. Had some pain the first time but once I started my 2nd mile the pain was all but gone. IT tightened after I cooled off. Overall very happy with my run all things considered.
What would you do differently?:

Heal!
Post race
Warm down:

Walking and about 10-15 min worth of stretching. Food and a few beers :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

No race specific training for months, I've been on a maintenance program which really consisted of swimming and biking only and pretty low volume. With proper healing and training I'm sure I could go faster.

Event comments:

Thanks to my biggest fan out there, you know who you are :)

Great race and race report.  My thoughts were with you as you were racing.  I am so proud of you for completing this race!  You have been injured and have had such a difficult tri season this year due to the injury.  Way to stay tough and have a great race.

Thank you Amy.  You've provided great motivation and support over the season.  The race season might have been a bust for me, but I'm the biggest winner having you in my life   Thanks again!
