FYI I had a chat with my coach who is based in MA today and he said its very possible the swim may not be wetsuit legal this year as many of the races that normally are wetsuit legal have not been this year, so be prepared for that.   Of course there may be a hurricaine that day so there it is

Thanks for the heads up. The only good thing is that lake is on the smaller side and can drop temps quickly. Crossing my fingers.

As for the weather, the hurricane is looking at Sunday into Monday, but it is also + or - 250 miles in track error possibilities, so we shall see.

I swam in Loon Pond today. I think the temps were probably in the low 70's and with the cooler weather we have been having I am pretty sure that it will be wetsuit legal. I am not racing...but will be there to cheer you all on!!!!

Thinking positively and doing the anti rain/hurricane dance..my last race was in a down pour..I'm hopin thats not the case again...as far as wetsuit- whichever- pluses & minuses to both scenarios..
The only bad thing about Cranberry being this weekend is that to me it coincides with the winding down of the season & the summer... Lets hope it is its usual hot & sunny summer self!

Have we decided on a time & headcount for Fireside??

Not competing, but the local weather for Sunday, as of now, is looking like rain, possibly heavy, with winds. Its the front edge of Hurricane Irene making an appearence. The storm itself is supposed to pass by/over during Sunday night.

Due to procrastination I was too late to sign up for the Oly (sold out), so I'm in for the sprint -- Joe, you will be there on Saturday, right?

They are still looking for volunteers. You can sign up here.

Our daughters Emily, Shasha and Libby are signed up to help with the finish line on the Oly.

Have any of you racing rec'd an email from Race Director about the possible weather issues? If you get one, post here please as those of us not racing won't get the email.

Here's the email from this morning:

As many of you are aware, Hurricane Irene threatens to arrive in Massachusetts this weekend so I wanted to provide an update on how we will communicate any changes to this weekend's Cranberry Trifest races made necessary due to the weather.

At this time, it appears wind and rain related to the hurricane may begin Saturday afternoon. We will proceed with Sunday's race if the forecast is for light or moderate rain, but if the forecast calls for more severe weather dictating event cancellation or course changes we will communicate this news with an email to all registered athletes, a post to the Sun Multisport Events Facebook fan page and with an update to the Cranberry Trifest section of the Sun Multisport Events website.

We understand many of you have travel and hotel plans to consider and we want to give you as much advance notice as possible regarding any changes, but at the same time we don't want to make any decisions prematurely. As a result, we don't expect to make any decisions about Sunday's race based on the weather until Saturday afternoon.

Presently, it doesn't look like Saturday's races will be affected by the weather. If the weather forecast changes and suggests hazardous conditions affecting Saturday's races our communication plan is the same... registered athletes will be notified by email and updates will be posted to our Facebook fan page and to the Sun Multisport Events website. Any changes, if necessary, will be communicated Friday afternoon.

No news is good news. If you don't hear from us you should assume all races for this weekend will proceed as scheduled.

Best Regards

not sure we really need reservations at this point. The back room has always been empty and we always end up adding later. Kathy, I know you have taken care of this in the past, dose this sound about right to you?

We have always had someone call so they save one of those big table for us. Getting a rough count helps them.

From FB Sun Multisport's fan page...8/21

Loon Pond water temperature update... as of 9:45am this morning the Loon Pond water temperature was 78 degrees F. The current weather forecast for the week is low 80s so another wetsuit-legal Cranberry Trifest appears to be in our future!

Winds were in the mid to high 20s mph this afternoon on the Cape.  Lots of folks pulling boats and even a few sandbags being filled.  Stay tuned.....

ok, just canceled my room for Sat. night, but still racing on Sat. AM. Anyone interested in moving the "dinner" on Sat. PM to a lunch on Sat afternoon? Since I am no longer staying over on Sat night, I hope to head home a little earlier.

for what it is worth, it looks like I beat last years time on this course. For better or worse, it would mean a PR on this course. A few notes though... The swim seemed very short, confirmed by other racers, the bike might have been shorter by about 1/2 mile, not sure and RD could not confirm this. Either way, I will take a faster time, because I worked hard for it today!!
