Did anyone do this race last year?  Did it sell out? How early?  I'm planning on doing the race but wanted to know how early I needed to get signed up.  Thanks.

I did the Half. No, it did not sell out. You could have registered up to the end of August.

Side note: Very well run event. Especially for a first year. I plan on doing it again.

Which REV3 half are you talking about?  There is one in Knoxville, Cedar Point and Quassy (CT)?  I did the Knoxville Half last year, it's not the featured event for the race (the OLY is) so I think you are safe with that one not selling out, the Quassy race is the featured race and I think that one will sell out this year.  The Cedar Point race hasn't opened up reg. yet (Oct. 1 I believe) and again, the half isn't the featured race, but there were 800 registered this year so I think it has a good chance of selling out.

Hope that helps!

I should have clarified, I did the Cedar Point HIM.

There were closer to 600 people in the half. The full is the featured race so I don't know what there plans are for the half (how big they will let it get). Again, very well run event and I plan to do it again this next year. I don't think the race will sell out, but the host hotel does so if you plan to do either of the races you should get your reservations done early.

I sent an email to the Rev3 folks about the half in Knoxville and she stated that there were 750 people last year that did the half and it did not sell out.  She indicated that they expect more this year but I took it as there would be plenty of time to register.

I'm planning to do the Knoxville HIM. Does REV offer Bike Transport services or something similar?

I did the him in Knoxville. I believe there were only about 200 for the him and 700 total. Great support but they have been inaccurate with everything from information, results, to follow up. I have contacted them over half a dozen times about 3 different issues and they have completely ignored everything. I enjoyed the course and the volunteers were awesome. I will never do this one again because of the leadership focus on pros only. I am a middle of the pack guy who does this for fun and exercise. They act like I am not worthy of showing up. Just my 2 cents (by the way, I have never been negative about a race before because I know everything can not be perfect for everyone, this was over the top bad and it was not just me)

That's odd to hear b/c I did the Cedar Point Half and felt just the opposite.  I didn't even know there were Pro's present at the race and I always got quick responses from the race director regarding my questions leading up to the race.

I also did the HIM at Cedar Point and thought it was very well done. The slow people like me were treated great! Hopefully the experience at Knoxville was an isolated one. I have heard a lot of good things about Rev3 and I hope they have success. I like the idea of having more choices, especially for HIM and IM events.

I emailed the RD about using bike transport and he got back to me within 24 hours which seemed pretty reasonable to me.  Trying to get any response on their FB page is another story.

Sorry you had such a bad time  Obviously, our goal is not to have you feel this way.  It is not normal that you have reached out on so many ocassions without a response.  Please e-mail me directly, [email protected].  I will personally take care of any problems that you may have.

It's our goal that every athlete that does a Rev3 race gets treated like a pro and the facct that you feel otherwise really bothers me.  Hopefully, we can learn from your experience and make the race better for all the athletes.

I contacted Charlie as he asked and within a few hours had a response. I understand races in a new place can be tough and I do want you guys to know that I did get an immediate response and am very appreciative for his dialogue. I will do a race with rev 3 again after our conversation. I told him that I believe this venue has the opportunity to be spectacular and the volunteers were amazing.

I'm planning to do the Knoxville Half - looking forward to it!  I've heard lots of good things about the race series.  Trying to get back in shape after taking a couple of years off from any real training - gained WAY too much weight.  But I've had fun with my dog in the interim! Smile

Well phat, I'll try to help represent the GA folks as well.
This will be my first HIM, if you have a rope to tow me with, I'd appreciate it.

Looking forward to having a little fun.

Keep an eye on this forum. The Cleveland Triathlon Club will host course rides in July and August.  We did 2 last year with a lot of help from Eric and Charlie at Rev3.  The events will be posted soon.  I am trying to figure out my race schedule in July.

Thanks for the info on the Cleveland Tri Club, kenb321. I'm planning on signing up for the HIM in Sandusky this year in the hopes of doing the IM a year or two later. Does the tri club do any open swims in Lake Erie?

We do open water swims every Tuesday in Lake Erie.  We ususally get 20-30 swimmers per week.  It really builds your confidence being able to swim in open water.  And yes, we do check the bacterial levels for all our swims.

The course preview days for Rev3 Cedar Point will be July 23 and August 20.  We will have a swim clinic, bike ride of about 50 or 100 miles on the actual Cedar Point Course, and a short run course.

Last year, we had approximately 120- 150 people at both days.  They were great!

More details to follow as the dates get closer!
