Overall Rank = 96/313

Age Group Rank = 4/14
Pre-race routine:

Got up early and got a good spot in transition. Had to set up the BR Tri tents, banners and ice bath pool before the race. During all the rushing around, I forgot to eat or drink anything which was not a smart thing to do. Would make me uncomfortable for the first part of the race. Pool had a hole in it so all the water drained out before we could enjoy the post-race ice bath...
Event warmup:

Ran around trying to get stuff set-up and swam about 150 yds just before lining up on the bank for the time trial start. Need to make sure to eat and drink before...
Swim
  • 16m 10s
  • 875 yards
  • 01m 51s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim went okay considering I haven't been swimming much. Limited bumping due to time trial start. Felt like I was going to puke the last half due to my lack of fueling correctly before the race.
What would you do differently?:

Eat and drink something pre-race. Never had this problem before, but we all make bonehead mistakes from time to time.
Transition 1
  • 00m 38s
Comments:

This is free time, so why not use it. Only 6 people in the race had faster T1. At least I'm good at something. Closest in clydes was 24 sec back.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster, not fumble helmet strap?
Bike
  • 58m 17s
  • 20 miles
  • 20.59 mile/hr
Comments:

Good bike for me in the hills. Pushed, but didn't blow it out. Tried to save a little for the run. Felt bad at the start due to lack of pre-race fueling. Actually threw-up a little at mile 6. Took in half a bottle of Gatorade quickly and my stomach finally settled. Apparently it does better with something in it versus being totally empty.
What would you do differently?:

Eat and drink before the race. Push a little harder.
Transition 2
  • 00m 51s
Comments:

Had my extra bottle there and decided to take a drink before leaving T2. Took an extra 5-10 seconds. Nike Free's are harder to get on with yankz than average shoes. They just aren't stiff enough. Yankz were right pressure, but it just makes the shoe fold up more since they are so flimsy.
One guy in clydes went faster.
What would you do differently?:

Drink at aid station just outside T2. Normally isn't one until mile 1, but they had one at exit this year. Check this out before race.
Run
  • 26m 14s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

Legs felt slow mainly due to low mileage this year. Just haven't run enough. Didn't push the bike too hard, just don't have the run fitness at this point. Even open 5k's this year have been in the 25 minute range.
What would you do differently?:

Train more.
Post race
Warm down:

Looking forward to a nice cold ice bath, but all the water had drained out of the pool due to hole. Took some ice that was supposed to be for the pool and put it down my shorts on my quads.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being sick all week did not help. Got a head cold after my long ride last Sunday and didn't train all week. Felt like crap all week and race day. Still have a cold today. Lack of pre-race nutrition and fueling also played a roll. Will never make that mistake again.

Event comments:

Meat Pie is a great race that is always fun to do. Rce Director does a great job. Didn't like the price increase and the skimp on the race bag, but will do it next year. Great venue.
