Subject: garmin 305 connectivity issue

I have two garmins and they are both having issues connecting to the base to charge the units. One of my bases works most of the time and the other very sporadically. Is there a way to clean the connectors on the unit itself and on the bases?  I notice that the brass connectors on the units tend to become black and discolored.

Normally a qtip and some rubbing alcohol works. At worst a scotch brite will help break some o the gunk up or steel wool.

For me the issue was that the pin where the usb cable plugs into the cradle had bent upwards.  I gently bent it back down to the center and haven't had any problems since.

I had the same problem, and I read somewhere that the battery connections inside the unit can get loose. They recommended a good hard squeeze right where the connectors are, squeezing the front towards the back. It seems to work for me (so far).

I changed the original band to use the velcro quick release instead. It fits my wrist and the velcro protects the metal connectors better. I also make sure to wipe the sweat from the unit after use, that corrodes the metal on the garmin.
