Ate a sandwich. Drove the hour to the race.
Didn't really do a warm-up.
Swim
  • 18m 50s
  • 800 yards
  • 02m 21s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was my first OWS event.

The start wasn't too bad. I hung back so I wasn't in too much chaos, but then I had to work my way around some people.

Sighting went pretty well.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 1
  • 05m
Comments:

Fairly slow on T1. I wanted to make sure I got a gel and some water down. Also struggled a bit with my gloves, so finally went without. My hands did fine -- didn't bother me at all.
What would you do differently?:

Forget the gloves. Do better with the socks.
Bike
  • 1h 15m 31s
  • 14 miles
  • 11.12 mile/hr
Comments:

This sure beat me up for the run.

My speed on the flats was fine.
What would you do differently?:

Train more and train more on hills.
Transition 2
  • 02m
Comments:

Racked the bike just fine. I had a little trouble remembering which way to head for the run path.
What would you do differently?:

Scout the course layout better.
Run
  • 38m 13s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 12m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

I just couldn't recover from the bike! My breathing and pacing was all too choppy and short. Never did settle into a good pace.
What would you do differently?:

Train more.

I had estimated 25 minutes based on a training swim, so I was pleasantly surprised.

I had estimated about 1 hour 10 minutes. But I didn't take into account the hills.
Wind: None
Course: I didn't expect the hills! Very little of my biking has been on hills, and my biking is the part of my training that has really been lacking lately. Crud! I had to walk at the top of a few hills. But felt good coming down pretty fast since it was straight.
