Tri Coaches in Dallas Area

Pretty hard to go wrong with Ahmed or Aaron at Playtri.  I persoanlly know two people who have used Aaron and both rocked their first IMs.  One did CdA in 11:15:00.  

Playtri, Texas Triple Threat, & Negative Split all have good coaches that can do 1 on 1 training.  Those groups as well as Dallas Athletes also offer group training options.

North Texas Performance Coaching is a great option.

I have done some 1 on 1 swim training with Kristen from texas triple threat, she is awesome and made a huge difference in my swim time.

Nothing against the others...but I too, would recomend Tommy (with Texas Triple Threat - http://www.texastriplethreat.com/coachingservices/coachtommybio.php).  I've seen him, first hand, deliver an IM first-timer to the finish line at IM St. George (one of the harder races on the curtuit).

At the very least, he's a beast on the bike & could help you there.  I haven't dealt with him in any of the other disciplines(though I'm sure he's fine) so I can't say from personal experience, but he's got the bike portion down pat.

And he's originally from Louisiana, so that makes him smarter than most Texans to begin with.

I use Brent Poulsen out of Fort Worth, I realize it's not Dallas, but still it's hard to beat teh following: unlimited contact (email mostly, but still a bit on the phone), cheap monthly coaching, free "camps" such as Super Saturday/Suffer Sunday. You will also learn the importance of recovery! He works with beginners to elites. He is a pro triathlete and also Canadian. Send email to him to inquire @

I going to evaluate hiring a coach for IM TX as well and if I do it would be with Playtri. I'm sure others are good too, I just don't know much about them. I'll be getting my testing done through Playtri in a couple months and see what they advise based on that. There's also club and group workouts every week as well. Their athletes put up some solid performances while emphasizing injury prevention and nutrition. 

But I'm also biased, so this is just a personal post. Tommy is a great guy too! 

 

I suggested Tommy to a friend of mine who is considering a coach. So I will suggest here here as well.

I also think David Gillen at Gorilla Multi Sport is good. Aaron is a great choice as well.

Get a few people you want to talk to. Keep in mind that you want a coach who will work with you. Meaning: maybe you are into use a Power Meter... if so, get a coach who likes coaching people with a Power Meter. Maybe you like training by distance instead of time... get a coach who gives you training plans based on distance... not time. Etc.

Communication is absolutely the most important aspect of coaching.  I tell all my athletes to phone, text, email, etc. anytime.  I want to know what they're doing, how they're doing, questions, concerns, issues, etc.  Without effective, two-way communication, bringing out the best in an athlete won't happen.

Just wanted to tell everyone "Thank You" for all the responses and PM's! It is great to have a forum like this availble for us newbies to gather advice and ask questions. I have a very long list of potential coaches and will start whittling down the list after my HIM next weekend.

Again, thanks for all the responses. It really seems like I have a good mix of talents, backgrounds, philosphies, and costs to make a well informed decision once I start contacting all the different coaches!
