I will be attempting my first HIM in 2 weeks in Austin. I have been using a training program from triathlete mag and have followed it closely. over the past 2 weeks i found my motivation and desire lacking, as well as fatigue setting in. I have done 2 sprints and 2 olys this year and have not noticed this. Is this par for the longer distance? any suggestions?

The end of a long season of training is almost over and it is easy to look too far forward and become apathetic.   Many people experience a let down shortly before a race, especially when you start to taper.  Set your goals just a few days out to help pull you through.

I think that it is a personal thing.  Perhaps other stresses in life. I don't know but I have gone through the same thing where I just didn't care anymore.  What cured me of this mindset was to go out and train some more, watch some IM videos and read some race reports.  This helped me get my 'mojo' back for training and was able to push through.  The good news for you is that you should be tapering now and can back off the training volume.  If you are anything like me you will find that after about a week of taper you will be hungry to put in some long hours just in time for the race.

Good luck!

I am doing Longhorn too as my first HIM!  I have been getting about 50 hours a month in training for the last 5 months.  I am tired and looking forward to that taper, but know I still have couple of long workouts to get through first.  I keep my workout calendar on my desk and really enjoy checking off the days.  It helps me see that the end is near (and sort of keeps me scared that the race is so near).

Totally normal. Expect weird stuff during taper.

By the time I got to my HIM, I absolutely didn't care whether I did the race or not--but I just stuck to the plan and wound up having the race of my life, a real epic.

Hang in there--both your physical/emotional feelings are likely to be wonky during this time. Get plenty of rest.

During my 2 week taper, I felt pain in places I didn't know I had.  Aches which I had never felt before.  All the issues I was worried about didn't play a part in the event at all.
