Swim
Comments: Panic after start!!! To hard too soon, water was cold and started to hyperventilate. Horrible experience. My legs got heavy, could not breath or find my rythm. I just wanted to get out of the water.... crazy! Finally, things settle and I was comfortable and actually enjoyed the rest of the swim a lot! What would you do differently?: Concentrate on pacing at the beginning of the swim. Transition 1
Comments: Very long run from out of water to my bike. Strippers did a great job, wetsuit was out in seconds!! All transition items in plastic bags due to rain made things a bit slower but not bad. I wore compresion sleeves under wetsuit. Awesome! What would you do differently?: Nothing really Bike
Comments: Beautiful course but it turned a bit dangerous with some (many) people not having a clue what to do on a race like this. I am not an experienced thriathlete, this is my first HIM, but I can read!!! Going downhill on the rain at 40mph+ you don't have many options, and there were guys and gals riding like on a group ride sometimes 4 line abreast!!! Blocking any passing line. C'mon guys!!!! I would approach them screaming LEFT, PASSING LEFT!! but nothing, they didn't care and never moved. I ended up having to cross the double yellow line to avoid them. Luckly no traffic on the opposite direction. That's non-sense. Where were the referees??????? Other than that, a very enjoyable ride mostly in the rain. Paced my self pretty good and ended up with a decent time. Transition 2
Comments: Again, long run to my rack. Having placed my shoes and socks on a plastic bag was huge! There was a lot of rain and they were nice and dry!! Run
Comments: BAD, BAD, BAD. Ok, maybe not terrible because I finished, but my pace sucked!!! My left quad and knee gave me some serious trouble and I was afraid of having to stop, so I basically joged after mile 7. What would you do differently?: Train a lot smarter for the run. Post race
Warm down: Enjoy the moment, eat pizza and got a short massage. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of better and smarter run training. Rushing my swim start. Event comments: Thanks to the people of Augusta, GA for being great hosts to this great event. I'am coming back next year. Can't think of a better place for having done my first HIM. Thanks to the BTers on the Augusta 70.3 blog. Great information was provided that helped me and others plan and execute the race. Last updated: 2009-12-22 12:00 AM

Saturday drove to Augusta straight to swim start. Swam 25', transition to about 22' bike, just went across the river and back and a 15' run. Then stood in line for an hour to register. Finally got there and it was pretty exiting! First IM race ever! Expo was small, crowded and expensive but still, found some items I needed; compresion sleeves, race belt with fuel loops and race hat. Obviously some souvenirs. Big lasagna with another triatlete from Savannah on a local italian place, it was great!!! Stayed up kind of late putting all transition items in plastic bags (rain coming).
Race morning: Protein shake and on the way to transition, banana honey sandwich.
Had to walk a lot to transition and then back to the car and swim start.
At swim start hydrate, chat and a good long visit to the WC. Great!
Then wetsuit on and stand on line for the start. I got rally nervous.
Walking!!!
Lots of water and a Hammer Gel 15' before swim start.
