Where do you even get to look at triathlon bikes in our area  (Omaha)?  I have been to most of the Omaha bike shops and I have not seen one for sale.  I really want to find a used one, because I know I can't afford new.

Next question is where did you get your tri bike fitting done?  I got my road bike fitting done at Bike Masters and that was a bike help.

It's really thin in Omaha.  There's a couple get shops in the KC area and I think a good one in Des Moines.  I know the Bike Way uses the Specialized BG protocol for their bike fit and I think one of the Trek shops uses Serotta.  I think Bike Masters might have some Felt tri bikes and they also do bike fits.

There are only 2 places in Omaha that I've seen them. Highgear Trek store carries a few tri bikes (this is actually in Papillion. Scheels at Village Point also carries a few of them. I believe Scheels had Blue and Fiji bikes when I went there. But yes, very slim pickings in  Omaha.

Bike Masters did my bike fit for my road bike, but they had no tri bikes in stock when I did the bike fitting.

The Scheels store was not impressive and the people there were not helpful at all when I was there.  I have not tried the Trek store in Papillion.

I know there is supposed to be a decent Tri place in Lincoln, but not sure who or where.

What are the one's in Kansas City or Des Moines?

All the shops must have sold them since I was looking in August. Back then they had about 10 at Bikemasters, pretty much all price ranges. They had a P1 at Trek by NFM, and about 8 or so on Giles. They also had a few Fuji's at scheels and a Giant at another place.

This all goes to back up my desire to open a Tri store in Omaha. I'd love to do it.

Yeah, the clothes thing is what prompted my interest. I'd love to carry about 10 different lines with sizes and styles for all. The problem is that it looks like it would take about 200-250k just to open the doors. Not a risk I can take right now.

That is the thing.  It takes a big $$$$ to start and to keep everything flowing as long as possible.  I wish someone could do it, but I think it would be a struggle to keep the doors open.

Last time I was in at Cycle Works, it is still mostly a bike store...similar to the bigger ones in Omaha. I will admit though, I wasn't looking around much at the time, just grabbing a tube to fix a flat.

I will stop in there next time I am in Lincoln (go there a lot, and will be moving there next year )

Why are you moving to Lincoln?

I was hoping to get a training ride in with some of you that are more fit and faster, so I would have to work harder at it.

Moving to Lincoln for my wife's job. She will FINALLY be done with residency, and is joining a practice there. Don't worry, I can still make the trip to Red Oak for an event once in a while

What are you going to do?

We are starting the planning stages of the TrYathlon for late April or early May.  I want to pick your brain on things we can do to make it better for the second year.

I only have one real suggestion. Put transition in the parking lot. It kinda sucked where it was....mainly because of the ditch and narrow gravel drive. Cone/Tape it off, so that only the athletes are in it during the race. Makes it less confusing. I almost hit a few people standing right in the way, even though I was ringing the crap out of my bell.

I was in Lincoln early October and really like Bike Peddlers. I used to live in Lincoln and so I also went to Cycle Works and was really disapointed.

Bike Peddlers set me up on a Felt B16 which I have been looking at and I rode for a couple of hours. They know their bikes and were friendly and easy going. They aren't the typical shop in Nebraska that only carries Trek or Specialized. They have Felt, BMC, and I think also are getting into Willier. They really know about race wheels and are easy to talk with.

I am actually am considering buying from them even though I live in Portland, OR which has a bunch of shops.

For disclosure sake, my brother rides with their shop team.
