Total Time = 3h 49m 20s
Overall Rank = 56/59
Age Group = 3034
Age Group Rank = 15/17
Event warmup:

Swam to get used to the cold water, walked, stretched.
Swim
  • 43m
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 37s / 100 yards
Comments:

I have never swam this far in one shot before. I was impressed with how relaxed I was. I felt very happy the whole swim.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing! Learn to swim faster of course.
Transition 1
  • 02m 34s
Comments:

How does one put on the helmet and take off a wetsuit at the same time? I need extra limbs.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I was taking my time and getting my equilibrium after my longest ever swim.
Bike
  • 1h 32m 10s
  • 23 miles
  • 14.97 mile/hr
Comments:

I was recovering from the flu and could NOT get my legs to move faster. I felt incredibly sluggish. I made very few passes and this is by far my slowest race pace ever. This segment felt frustrating and I became extremely fatigued and bored.
What would you do differently?:

Not get the flu?
Transition 2
  • 02m 16s
Comments:

I was happy the bike segment was over at last and was hitting a wall.
Run
  • 1h 28m 49s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 14m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

This was my worst run EVER. I was at the "wall" before I began. The flu took it out of me big time. I felt overheated the entire time and had to walk several times because I felt dangerously hot. My pace is so slow--it is a good 5 minutes slower than my half marathon pace!
What would you do differently?:

Allow more recovery time after illness
Post race
Warm down:

I felt awful...near heat stroke, sick to my stomach, and fatigued. I will not undertake a triathlon so soon after a flu ever again!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I had been sick with the flu for a week and had only recovered two days earlier. I lost 5 lbs. from vomiting and was incredibly weak.

Event comments:

I love "Your Cause Sports." They are very friendly and not at all harsh and strict like the Aflac folks.

Great effort on a difficult day for you!  I was right there walking with you, which was humbling for me (stomach issues).  85 degrees at swim start and close to 90 by the run = death march.

This tri was an exercise in torture and mental endurance for me. I am glad to hear I was not imagining the crippling heat!

If only there had been a tree anywhere.  I felt the torture also.  I about jumped back in the res. at the turn around point on the run.  That water started to look really good.
