Precipitation
Total Time = 1h 15m 52s
Overall Rank = 380/575
Age Group = M3034
Age Group Rank = 53/66
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3:30am, went through my checklist and had 2 packs of instant oatmeal. Stretched in the hotel and then left at 4:45am.
Event warmup:

5min jog and a few strides then some light stretching.
Swim
  • 12m 57s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

The water was really cold and even though I was prepared for it I think it still may have slowed me down a little. Otherwise, the swim went well.
What would you do differently?:

Anytime a race gives the opportunity to acclimatize to the water I'll take it. This race, though, didn't allow warming up in the water.
Transition 1
  • 03m
Comments:

The transition are was enormous, which contributed to my slow time. I wasn't exactly very fast getting out of my wetsuit either.
What would you do differently?:

Practice getting that wetsuit off.
Bike
  • 33m 34s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 22.22 mile/hr
Comments:

I had a good time on the bike...maybe too good of a time since I didn't do as well as I wanted on the run. I'm real happy with my time since this was the fastest I've ridden this distance.
What would you do differently?:

Improve bike skills.
Transition 2
  • 03m 52s
Comments:

Since the transition area was so large it was a long way to the bike. We had to run down from the entrance all the way to the back and then back up to your rack number. I almost passed up the entrance and never got my feet out of my shoes so I ran in them through the muddy grass...that made it worse and probably accounted for some of my monstrous 4min T2 time!
What would you do differently?:

I really should work on these transitions.
Run
  • 22m 31s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

I've had some faster brick runs coming off a longer, yet slower bike rides, so I'm not sure what happened here. Maybe the swim takes a lot more out of you than I think.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe a little better pacing on the swim and bike. But, then again, it's definitely not worth 2min slower on the bike to save 1min on the run.
Post race
Warm down:

A boat ride back to transition!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Probably not practicing transitions enough and not being able to work out enough the week of my taper.

Event comments:

About the post race activities, I'm sure they were great, but I missed it. Something came up and I had to catch the next flight home after the race. That sucked!
