This is my 4th time doing this race, so by now I know what to expect-- a brutally hilly and challenging trail run on one of the toughest courses in the area.
Over the past two weeks, I ran the course twice in prep for this event. But unlike past years, I haven't been focusing only on running lately. Instead, I've been doing full S/B/R in prep for last weekend's tri in Iowa. I think that cost me, as I just wasn't in as good of running shape as in the past couple of years.
However, I wanted to push my pace to have a go at a PR so I came out hot... as it turns out probably too hot for my level of run fitness. I wound up having to walk up a couple hills far earlier than in past years.
I tried to find my pace again on the subsequent flats and downhills, but I was just too blown up. As it turned out, I actually timed out better than I felt I raced, considering all the walking I did. Still, I was slower than last year (not surprising considering I was just coming off doing an IM) and a few seconds slower than the previous year-- that hurt a little bit.
Oh well, maybe it's time to focus on my running again.
I was 59/104 overall Males.
